36th “Run the Rockies” Taking Place in Frisco on June 9th

The 36th annual Run the Rockies 10K will take place in Summit County on June 9th, with a 5K trail run/walk following on June 10th.  The courses could be a welcome departure from city courses as they wind from Copper Mountain to downtown Frisco.  The 10K is 100% down hill and the Half Marathon will be 75% downhill.  This year, Run the Rockies will be “chip timed”.  Runners and walkers can also enjoy the Frisco Peninsula on Sunday with the 5K trail race!

On June 9th, From 7-8am, bus transportation will be provided to the Start at the Ten Mile Creek Bike Path.  There will be no transportation at the conclusion of the race.  Buses will leave from the Frisco Recreation Building at 3rd and Main in Frisco, Colorado.   The 10K and Half Marathon begin at 8:30 am, and the course will close at 11:45 am at which time, timing will stop.  Aid stations will be located at the halfway point and 3 additional locations.  Refreshments, awards and giveaways will follow each event.

On June 10th, head to the Frisco Day Lodge (located at the Peninsula Recreation Area) for a 7:45 registration and bib and chip pick up. There will be a 9 am Start time for the 5K with an aid station located at the halfway point.  Again, refreshments, awards and giveaways will follow the conclusion of the 5K.  Click here for further details and registration information!

Keystone Resort and Summit Fly Fishing to Host May 26th Fishing Derby

Keystone Resort and Summit Fly Fishing will host a May 26th Fishing Derby for kids 13 and under.  The whole family is welcome to cheer on their favorite angler and enjoy a beautiful morning on the lake with raffle prizes, BBQ and live music following the event.  No barb, no bait.  Registration will start at 8am and the derby begins at 9am.  Fishing gear is not supplied so come prepared with your own tackle and fishing gear.

Free parking will be available at the Keystone Lodge Parking Lot just off Hwy 6 across from the Keystone Lodge.  Take the underground tunnel to the Village.

Keystone Resort Summer 2012 Preview!

Keystone Resort has plenty of summer activities to keep you and your family busy.  Take a look below at returning favorites and recurring activities as you plan out your summer vacation to Keystone, Colorado!

Friday Afternoon Club: Beginning on June 15th, this fun activity is scheduled for Fridays throughout the summer months!  Enjoy free activities at the Summit House including horseshoes, bocce ball and ladder ball.  Enjoy live music and food and drink specials throughout the afternoon.  You can access the activities by taking the scenic gondola ride from River Run Village.  Tickets for the gondola will be available at the River Run ticket office, and they will be FREE on Fridays from 4 pm to close.

Kids Discovery Days: Explore the fun at the Kids Discovery Day every Tuesday at Keystone.  The entertainer changes each week, and this fun event will run from June 15th through August 14th.  The first week will open up with animals featured from the Denver Zoo.  This event is FREE!  Discovery Days includes a bounce house and alternating each week, either 2 face painters or 2 balloon artists.  Lines close at 12:30pm. Performer will be from 11am - 11:45am.

Storytelling with Redtail the Mountain Man and Bambi the Donkey: New to River Run Village this year is free storytelling with a Colorado legend, the Mountain Man, who will be accompanied by his furry friend, Bambi.  Enjoy free face painting during this great event for younger kids!

River Run Rocks Concert Series: Kicking off on July 7th with The Six Million Dollar Band, the River Run Rocks Concert Series will be back for the summer.  Set right in the River Run Village Plaza, the series features food and drink specials, plus prime seating on the decks of Wolf Rock, 9280’ TapHouse and Luigi’s.

Food fanatics just might be interested in two events scheduled at Arapahoe Basin in May; each with very different cuisine.

Saturday, May 5th Moonlight Dinner Series: A Night in Asia @ A-Basin

Head to the Black Mountain Lodge for an eruption of Asian flavors and fare from sushi to Dim Sum. This night will be full of the smells of stir fry and curries, along with a selection of Sake. Ride the lift to mid-mountain for dinner and snowshoe or hike down the mountain afterwards.  This is a non-skiing event, travel is by snowshoe, hiking or chairlift only. Adult (Ages 13+) $78 plus tax, gratuity included. Cash bar.

Saturday, May 19th Chili Cook-Off @ A-Basin

Chili connoisseurs can unite to taste their favorite dish! The cook-off will be divided into green and red categories and includes prizes for 1st Place Overall, 2nd and 3rd place for each category, and a People’s Choice winner. Tasters will be given 4 beans to put into the mason jar of their favorite chili’s. The participant with the most beans in their jar will be named the People’s Choice winner. Tasting is from 1:00-3:30pm (or until it’s gone).

Pricing: (chili tickets go on sale at 11am)

$20 – 15 tastings and 3 beers        $3 – 12oz beer          $1 – taste

Arapahoe Basin Hosts Festival of Brewpubs on May 27th

Visit Arapahoe Basin on Sunday, May 27th for the annual Festival of Brewpubs.   You can spend the day sampling mugs of beer from a variety of Colorado brewpubs for one low price per 14 oz mug.  Needless to say, you must be 21 to attend. Participating breweries will include Pug Ryan’s, Breckenridge, Dillon Dam, Backcountry and more.

Expect great live music, springtime skiing and much more! The New Classics Band, a top cover band out of Denver, Colorado will perform at the festival. This outstanding five piece band plays your favorite 80′s rock hits, 70′s funk and soul, and classic rock and roll dance songs that keep the energy high.

Arapahoe Basin Hosts its 4th Annual Save Our Snow Celebration April 14th

Saturday, April 14th, Arapahoe Basin will host its 4th annual Save Our Snow celebration.  Arapahoe Basin hosts this annual event as part of its commitment to providing quality outdoor recreation experiences.  Located just minutes from Keystone Resort, many SummitCove guests make the trip over to the ski area, particularly in the later spring months after Keystone closes.

Lake Dillon Theatre Company Offers Spring Performances in May

April 9th, 2012

May will be filled with performances at the Lake Dillon Theatre Company, which is located just a few miles from Keystone Resort.  Performances have been lined up for ‘A Behanding in Spokane’ by Martin McDonaugh May 10-13, 16-20, and 23-27, 30-31, and June 1-3. The play is described as an edgy dark comedy with quirky characters centered on Carmichael, who arrives in town searching for his missing left hand.

Weekday performances on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays begin at 6:30 pm and cost $27.

Weekend performances take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and cost $29.

Sunday performances are scheduled for 6:30 pm, and cost $29.  Student tickets are priced at $24.

Keystone Golf Course Opening Dates Announced

At the close of winter season, Keystone Resort has announced the opening dates of the River Course and the Keystone Ranch Course.  As temperatures continue to warm up, Keystone is planning for a great summer full of activities and events.  Golfers don’t have to wait long to hit the links!

The River Golf Course is scheduled to open on Friday, May 18th.  The par-71 course winds past the Snake River, and then into a lodgepole pine forest.  With elevation changes, water hazards, variable bunkers, and five sets of tees on each hole, golfers of all ability levels can play here.  With amazing views all around, the River Course also features a golf shop and The Grill.  The course will be open daily through October 7th.

Keystone Ranch Golf Course will open on June 1st, limited to weekends through the 24th.  From June 28th to September 30th, the course will be open daily.  This par-72 course works its way through pines around sage meadows and across a nine-acre lake.  The Keystone Ranch Golf Course was designed in the style of a Scottish course on the front nine and with a traditional mountain valley layout on the back nine.  The Keystone Ranch course also features a clubhouse with locker rooms, a full-service lunch and bar menu and a fully stocked golf shop.  This course is also located near the AAA Four Diamond restaurant, the Keystone Ranch.
