Keystone Resort is putting on a winter culinary festival for your tastebuds to enjoy.   You will need to make reservations for all of the events and you will want to do this as soon as you can!

Kicking off the fun on Friday starting at 10AM with a Kitchen Demo at the Aplenglow Stube on top of Keystone Mountian for only $5 you will enjoy some of the delicious american cuisine.  The Alpenglow Stube is a fantastic award winning restaraunt that is a must do for your Keystone Vacation, however it can get pricey so you might enjoy this sample of goodness.

Ski for a couple of hours after this tasting and work up an appetite because coming up at 2pm we will be seeing you at one of several tastings, Margaritas and Tequilas at Parrot Eyes in River Run Village, Whiskey Blend tastings, and Specialty Rums at the Keystone Lodge in Lakeside Village, now your probably done skiing after these so make sure you leave some of your taste buds to head over to the Unique Red Wines tasting at the ski tip lodge.  You will love this place, enjoy a cheese plate with your $20 tasting over here!   They will be having a wine tasting at the Lodge too if you can not pull yourself away from the rums and whiskey in time and to keep things rolling you have two options.  Head over to the Martini Tasting session at the Summit Seafood at the Inn in Keystone or the World Celebration of Wine at the Ski Tip again.

Now if you can pull off enjoying a couple of these tastings you should curl up into bed in one of our Keystone Rental homes and get ready for another great day of fun.

Saturday March 6th you can start the morning off the right way from 10am – noon at the Keystone Lodge and Spa.  Enjoy a morning of Mimosa’s and spa samples including chari massages, hand massages and treatments and other spa and skin treatments with a light breakfast for $15.  Not going to get much skiing done today but who cares when you can enjoy Mimosa’s and spa treatments, you might just turn this into a spa day instead!

If you are able to escape the spa don’t worry Keystone Resort is putting on a great day all over town, head over and catch the 11am Ice Carving Demo with Chef Steve Nguyen.  They will be putting on a free ice carving demo and at the base of the gondola in River Run Village.  They will be breaking out the chain saws and ice picks to really wow your eyes.  This is a great activity if you have enjoyed too many whiskey and champagne tastings and ready for some lazy day fun in River Run Village.

Saturday will have multiple tastings and then the Grand Tasting will take place at the Outpost.  Prices start at $99 per person and will take approximately 30 minutes to get there because you will be hopping gondolas on the way up.  dress warm and bring your appetite you will enjoy samples of Keystone Resorts local specialty restaurants including Skit Tip Lodge, Keystone Ranch, Bighorn Steak House, Keysotne Seafood Company, Alpenglow Stube and usually the Keystone chefs from these will show up with some additional goodies to outperform one another.  This is the main event for the tasting and the day will lead into another fun night of wine and cheese.

Sunday March 7th the Keystone Culinary Festival will come to an end.  You can start the morning off with a Chocolate and Breakfast class which will last up to 2 hours and will take place the Keystone Conference Center.  The Price is $50 for this 2 hour class and you will enjoy both eating and making cakes, chocolates, crepes, and baked good from Neds Bake SHop at the Conference Center in Keystone.

Alpenglow Stube Chef Demo

The Alpenglow Stube at ‘The Outpost’ in Keystone Resort is currently featuring a cooking demonstration by celebrated Chef Daniel LaChance. The demonstration will be on Thursdays from 10:30-11:00 AM, from January 14 to March 25, and is by reservation only. Chef Daniel LaChance, or Chef Dan, is a very charismatic and talented chef. Chef LaChance will discuss the history and preparation of dishes featured by the Alpenglow Stube or he will feature new and classic recipes. Some of the items Chef LaChance has prepared include selections from the lunch menu. For example, Smoked Colorado Lamb Chops, Seared Fresh Water Bass, Chocolate Mousse Torte and others have all been part of Chef LaChance’s demos.

Aside from the demos featuring a free sample of the Chef’s creations, guests are also given a hard recipe of the demo. This allows the guest the ability to make the dish at home. In other words, Chef LaChance gives you a recipe and then shows you how to cook it! If you’re as bad a cook as I am, this definitely helps and you get a free sample of the dish. Unfortunately, space is limited to twelve guests and is on a first come, first serve basis.

Now you must be wondering how to get to a restaurant on top of a mountain. The Alpenglow Stube is located at The Outpost in Keystone Resort. To get to The Outpost, a guest must take the River Run Gondola to The Summit House and then take the Outpost Gondola to The Outpost. If you already have a ski pass then you are all set, otherwise the cost for riding the Gondola is $7 which isn’t bad for a recipe, cooking demo and free tasting. If you have fallen in love with the restaurant after the demo, you can stay for lunch.

The Alpenglow Stube offers a great lunch selection, including a six or seven course menu if you are feeling daring. The restaurant is a ‘AAA Four-Diamond’ dining experience and is known has the highest (in elevation) four-diamond restaurant in North America. In addition to that unique distinction, the restaurant is has also been awarded with 1st place in “A Taste of Keystone” contest for the past eight consecutive years, which is quite an honor.

The Alpenglow Stube is one of the finest dining experiences in Colorado. Just to entice you more, the restaurant also features a wide wine selection with over 600 bottles in their cellar; their wine list has earned Wine Spectator’s “Best Of Award of Excellence” for four years in a row. Which means if you want to stop by for dinner as well you’ll be in good hands. One more reason to go is that kids eat free and with the demo in the beginning, it could be like lunch and a show for your little ones.

If you’re interested in the cooking demo, I would encourage you to stay for lunch and bring some friends with you. Space fills up fast, so make reservations as soon as possible and enjoy one of the finest dining experiences Colorado (and Keystone) has to offer.

Keystone Holiday Magic on Ice – December 19th 2009

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

Come to Keystone Colorado and enjoy an amazing and free presentation from the Denver Figure Skating Club! What could be better than enjoying amazing skaters gracefully display moves we can only imaging allowing our bodies to do. Grab the kids and come up to Keystone Colorado and head over to Lakeside Village for some high quality figure skating. You can rent some skates after the show, and try a couple of the spins yourself or watch your kids try! They are still releasing all of the details but I would expect some expert skating to occur before the show. Here is a link to some photos from the 2006 show that they put on! Click Here for photos.

Christmas in Keystone, CO

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Three years ago, I gave the best Christmas gift ever! I reserved my condo at the Springs for my sister’s family. They have lived in San Diego for several years and my 5 year old niece and 7 year old nephew had never experienced snow. As an outdoor enthusiast and a regular skier at Keystone Resort, I thought the time had come to introduce them to snow. Colorado style!
Christmas that year, wasn’t just white, but it was a blizzard. Their plane had trouble landing, they had to rent an SUV to get to Keystone, and then it was slow going up I-70. The look on their faces when they arrived told me it was all worth it. My niece did snow angels right outside our unit and my nephew couldn’t wait to get unpacked to try out skiing for the very first time. My nephew couldn’t get enough of standing up on his skis, going three feet, then falling down. The smile on his face went from ear to ear and he laughed so hard, he had trouble talking.
On Christmas Eve, the kids were so worried Santa wouldn’t find them. They were beside themselves in the morning when they found gifts under the little tree. Santa even found them in Keystone, CO! The best present, of course, was spending the day on the slopes with their dad and grandpa while my sister, mom and I prepared Christmas dinner. The condo has a grill, so it was super easy to make a leg of lamb.
Our family had the most memorable Christmas ever and we have vowed to spend every other Christmas in Keystone from now on!
