Keystone Resort Summer 2012 Preview!

Keystone Resort has plenty of summer activities to keep you and your family busy.  Take a look below at returning favorites and recurring activities as you plan out your summer vacation to Keystone, Colorado!

Friday Afternoon Club: Beginning on June 15th, this fun activity is scheduled for Fridays throughout the summer months!  Enjoy free activities at the Summit House including horseshoes, bocce ball and ladder ball.  Enjoy live music and food and drink specials throughout the afternoon.  You can access the activities by taking the scenic gondola ride from River Run Village.  Tickets for the gondola will be available at the River Run ticket office, and they will be FREE on Fridays from 4 pm to close.

Kids Discovery Days: Explore the fun at the Kids Discovery Day every Tuesday at Keystone.  The entertainer changes each week, and this fun event will run from June 15th through August 14th.  The first week will open up with animals featured from the Denver Zoo.  This event is FREE!  Discovery Days includes a bounce house and alternating each week, either 2 face painters or 2 balloon artists.  Lines close at 12:30pm. Performer will be from 11am - 11:45am.

Storytelling with Redtail the Mountain Man and Bambi the Donkey: New to River Run Village this year is free storytelling with a Colorado legend, the Mountain Man, who will be accompanied by his furry friend, Bambi.  Enjoy free face painting during this great event for younger kids!

River Run Rocks Concert Series: Kicking off on July 7th with The Six Million Dollar Band, the River Run Rocks Concert Series will be back for the summer.  Set right in the River Run Village Plaza, the series features food and drink specials, plus prime seating on the decks of Wolf Rock, 9280’ TapHouse and Luigi’s.

Arapahoe Basin Hosts Festival of Brewpubs on May 27th

Visit Arapahoe Basin on Sunday, May 27th for the annual Festival of Brewpubs.   You can spend the day sampling mugs of beer from a variety of Colorado brewpubs for one low price per 14 oz mug.  Needless to say, you must be 21 to attend. Participating breweries will include Pug Ryan’s, Breckenridge, Dillon Dam, Backcountry and more.

Expect great live music, springtime skiing and much more! The New Classics Band, a top cover band out of Denver, Colorado will perform at the festival. This outstanding five piece band plays your favorite 80′s rock hits, 70′s funk and soul, and classic rock and roll dance songs that keep the energy high.

  • Cost: $25 per 14 oz  mug. No other costs are associated with beer samples.
  • Time: Sampling from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Please bring ID.  No mugs will be sold without it!
  • Food: Sliders for sale in the base area – $2ea or 3 for $5. You can also purchase food from the Legend’s Cafe or Outside BBQ Grill.
  • Music: The New Classics will be playing live in the base area from 1-4p. This is a FREE concert!

Keystone Golf Course Opening Dates Announced

At the close of winter season, Keystone Resort has announced the opening dates of the River Course and the Keystone Ranch Course.  As temperatures continue to warm up, Keystone is planning for a great summer full of activities and events.  Golfers don’t have to wait long to hit the links!

The River Golf Course is scheduled to open on Friday, May 18th.  The par-71 course winds past the Snake River, and then into a lodgepole pine forest.  With elevation changes, water hazards, variable bunkers, and five sets of tees on each hole, golfers of all ability levels can play here.  With amazing views all around, the River Course also features a golf shop and The Grill.  The course will be open daily through October 7th.

Keystone Ranch Golf Course will open on June 1st, limited to weekends through the 24th.  From June 28th to September 30th, the course will be open daily.  This par-72 course works its way through pines around sage meadows and across a nine-acre lake.  The Keystone Ranch Golf Course was designed in the style of a Scottish course on the front nine and with a traditional mountain valley layout on the back nine.  The Keystone Ranch course also features a clubhouse with locker rooms, a full-service lunch and bar menu and a fully stocked golf shop.  This course is also located near the AAA Four Diamond restaurant, the Keystone Ranch.

Avon Walk Rocky Mountains:  June 23-24, 2012

This is a true destination event with a panoramic backdrop of the surrounding Rocky Mountains.   The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is your chance to make a powerful difference. Blue Ribbon Bacon Tour, June 23-24, 2012

The wonders of Appalachia meet the Rockies as own-home cooking, beer and mountain-music combine for this fun festival.  Gather where more than 25 of Colorado’s finest micobreweries showcase their unique blends of hops and barley, and live music is performed all day.

Keystone Resort Will Host the 2nd Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival in June!

Keystone Resort is gearing up for an exciting Spring Break, but it’s never too early to plan for your summer trip to the mountains!  The Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival will make its return to River Run Village on June 23rd and 24th .

The Bacon Festival will return for a second year after joining the lineup of Keystone summer festivals in 2011, and became an instant hit.  Guests who book early for the event with SummitCove will be entered to win 2 tickets and save 25% on select properties the week of the festival.

The event schedule has not been finalized, but it will include bacon tastings and bacon inspired culinary creations from various restaurants, live music, demonstrations, and much more.  The Bacon Festival is the perfect time to plan a weekend in the cool mountain air.  Once the official schedule of events has been published, we’ll be sure to post an update!

Summit County Will Host ProCycle Challenge in Breckenridge in 2012

Summit County cycling fans will be happy to know that the USA ProCycle Challenge for 2012 will include a stage in Breckenridge! Keystone Resort celebrated the festivities in nearby Breckenridge, and drew cycling fans worldwide.  13 cities will be included in the race across Colorado from August 20-26, 2012.  This year, Durango and Boulder were added to the race, adding exciting changes to the course this coming year.  The inagural race in August of 2011, which featured some of the best cyclists in the world,  drew large crowds to Keystone and areas of Summit County.  Take a look at the schedule below, and get an early jump on planning your trip!

USA ProCycling Challenge to Return to Colorado in 2012!

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge will be back in 2012 from August 20-26!  Race organizers have already begun planning for the 2012 race. Nearly 1 million spectators viewed the race from the roadsides along the route while more than 25 million watched the race on television in 161 countries and territories. The USA Pro Cycling Challenge was one of the largest cycling events in United States history.

For seven consecutive days, 135 of the world’s top athletes raced across 518 miles through the Colorado Rockies, reaching higher altitudes than they ever had to endure, more than two miles in elevation. The race featured a challenging course through some of America’s most beautiful scenery.

Requests for proposals for cities across Colorado to apply to be a 2012 host city will be issued at the end of the month.  Breckenridge, Copper Mountain Resort and Frisco in Summit County have been specifically invited to submit proposals.  This year, 11 host cities for the race included Colorado Springs, Salida, Crested Butte, Gunnison, Aspen, Vail, Avon, Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge, Golden and Denver. All 11 of these cities have expressed interest in returning as a host city in 2012.  The request for proposals will be posted online at the end of September.

Wine & Jazz Festival is Back! This Weekend!

Keystone River Course Golf Clinics Get Summer into Swing!

Golf season in Keystone is in full swing now that summer has officially begun.  Both the River Course and Ranch Course are now open.  We’ve got a list of some important events and activities to look out for when you visit Keystone this June.  Just don’t forget to bring your clubs!

Senior Golf Days at the River Course:  June 7th and 14th at 8am.  9 holes of golf followed by a clinic hosted by a River Course golf pro.  Lunch at the River Course Grill is included, all for just $60!  Call 970.496.1520 to register.

Junior Golf Clinics at Keystone Ranch Golf Course:  June 8th and 15th from 8-9:30am for Juniors aged 11-16 and 10-11:30am for Juniors aged 5-10. The first of several clinics throughout the summer, and just $20 per week, this will introduce the kids to all aspects of the game.  Equipment is provided, and you must register by calling 970.496.4250

Birdies and Betties at the River Course:  June 11th, 8 am.  9 holes of golf are followed by a clinic with a golf pro.  Lunch will be included at the River Course Grill for $60.  Registration can be made by calling 970.496.1520.  Sassy Caddy will host a special sale of their designer golf bags made just for the ladies!

Soak Up the Sun on Lake Dillon This Summer!

Why not spend a part of your Keystone summer vacation fishing or cruising a lake? Take a warm day on Lake Dillon for sailing lessons or rent a motor boat for trout fishing along 26 miles of shoreline.   Pack a family picnic to enjoy by the lake and lounge in the sunshine.

Lake Dillon is the largest lake in the Keystone area, and it offers spectacular scenic views and an abundance of activities to complete the perfect mountain vacation. With easy access to the Town of Dillon, shopping, lodging, there is sure to be something for everyone here.  The Dillon Marina hosts exciting weekend sailing regattas and other boating events that you can’t miss.

The recreational choices in the area are endless.  Miles of paved bike paths can be accessed near the marina. The surrounding National Forest also provides mountain-biking, rafting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and camping. Jeep tours on old mountain roads will take you to nearby historical mining towns. Hit the links at  any of Summit County’s four championship golf courses.

The Dillon Marina offers boat rentals, sailing instruction, racing regattas and is home to the Dillon Yacht Club.   At Frisco Bay Marina, you can rent a canoe, or kayak or hop aboard the water taxi.  There is sure to be plenty of fun to be had for your entire crew at Lake Dillon this summer!
