Keystone offers some of the finest night skiing in Colorado. Keystone illuminates 15 different slopes and a great terrain park and all of the slopes are on the front face of the mountain and is available on just a few lifts. These lifts being the River Run Gondola (with a mid stop for beginners) and the A-51 Terrain Park Lift; the tubing hill area is also available. The hours and availability vary, but is usually open during the heart of ski season.

Night skiing is available from January 6 through March 28 and is only open Wednesday through Sunday. The extended hours go until 8 PM Wed. through Sat. and till 6 PM on Sundays. Night skiing is an adventure in itself and it allows die-hard skiers to ski for a little bit longer each day (except Monday and Tuesday)! You can view the night ski trail map here:

Keystone Night Trail Map

Now for the fun part, how does one obtain a ticket for night skiing? Luckily for you, the admission for night skiing is included in the regular lift ticket! So you can ski all day and for a few hours into the night and all will be good to go. If you have a season pass, you are also all set to night ski. One of the great parts about night skiing is the opportunity to watch the sun set while you’re on the slopes.

Grocery-Store Beer vs. Liquor-Store Beer

Sadly yes, there is a difference. Now, I am all too familiar with the difference because I am from Utah and that is all that you can buy unless you go to a state liquor store (which is the only place liquor or wine is available by the bottle). As many of us know, beer differs in many areas, such as heft, taste, and even alcoholic percentage by weight. In Colorado grocery stores, the beer is limited to be 3.2% by volume, which means it may take a while to feel the effects. Most other beers are in the 4-6% by volume range, but once again, I have seen beer as high as 25% by volume.

3.2% beer, or as we call it, three-two beer, is usually only available by the big distributors like Coors, Bud and others. Microbrews and smaller companies generally do not make 3.2% beer, an exception being the Breckenridge Brewery.

If you looking for regular beer or beer of a higher proof, you have to go to a liquor store! Luckily there are three in Keystone. They are the Loveland Pass Liquors, Summit Liquors and Gateway Grocery and Liquor. The first is Gateway Grocery and Liquor, which has a limited selection and limited hours, but is close and convenient and the shuttle can drop you off at the Gateway Lodge and then take you back to River Run or anywhere else you need to go if you do not have a car. The Gateway Grocery and Liquor is located near our main office in the Gateway Lodge complex, or at 23110 Highway 6, very close to the River Run Area!

The next liquor store is called Loveland Pass Liquors and is pretty close to the Gateway property. The address is 22837 U.S. Highway 6 Dillon, CO 80435 and their hours of operation are from 10 AM – 11 PM. Loveland Pass Liquors has one of the better selections of delightful beverages and is a short drive away from many of the properties in Keystone.

The last liquor store in Keystone is Summit Liquors and it (like the others) is located off Highway 6. 21801 U.S. Highway 6, Keystone, CO 80435 and is just East of the other liquor stores, so you’ll probably pass it on your way into Keystone. However, I haven’t been to this one, nor do I know their hours so if you do go, please email me and let me know. Well know you are all educated about beer and liquor stores in Keystone, happy drinking!

Where are the Forest condos in Keystone?

The Forest condominiums in Keystone Colorado are made up of a couple of different condo buildings in Keystone Resort. The Forest Condos include the Wild Irishman condos, the Keystone Gulch rentals, and the Flying Dutchman Condo complexes. They are called the forest condos because these buildings sit tucked inside the White River National Forest and close to the Snake River and Bike Path. The Forest condos are also very easy to access via the Keystone Resort Shuttle, so skiing from the Forest condos in Keystone is a very simple thing to do. The Forest condos offer a value that you will not find anywhere else in Keystone. You can enjoy outdoor pools, hot tubs, fireplaces and large open areas around the Forest condos on your next trip to Keystone. To get to the forest condos you can follow your directions on your lodging confirmation or you can drive down West Keystone Road and hang a right on Soda Ridge Road and then look for the different Forest condo complex signs, Keystone Gulch will be on your left while Flying Dutchman and Wild Irishman will be on your right hand side.

Approximately 6:15 pm today at Keystone Resort, a Zamboni doing regular maintenance fell through a patch of thin ice. Nobody was injured in the incident. However, Keystone Lake which is the largest maintained outdoor ice rinks in the US, is currently closed for an unknown amount of time. Keystone Lake in Keystone Ski Resort is at the center of the Keystone Lakeside Village. The village is host to many shops and restaurants in the area along with many different lodging options. The frozen lake serves as a large skating rink in the winter months and there is also a hockey rink setup on the lake.

What makes a good hot wing? Is it the burn on your lips after smacking down a piping hot wing dipped in blue cheese? Is it the option between blue cheese and ranch? How about the size of the wing or leg, have you ever gotten a plate full mini hot wings and wondered who killed the baby chickens and put them on my plate? We have wondered this and more about hot wings and want to take a minute to steer you in the direction on Keystone Resorts best hot wings. After meticoulous research including gallons of beer, hundreds of wings, dozens of wet naps, loss of feeling in your lips, indegestion and floss runs we have a couple of must stop here spots in Keystone Resort for wings.

Keystone has a couple ways to buy wings, during specials and uber full price. We highly recommend enjoying happy hour wings at our local watering holes, not only do you get much better prices on wings but you also get cheap beer which is again, a huge factor in enjoying hot wings in Keystone.

Best places for hot wings in Keystone

First Stop: This will be your fanciest stop on the hot wing tour of Keystone, head over to Wolf Rock in River Run Village. They will dazzle you with hot wings of different varieties, don’t mind the sometimes stuffier crowds and head right to the bar. You can order up some wings in Thai flavored, traditional buffalo, or what they call Diablo (we call disabled), too hot for comfort in the morning. Now this is a nicer setting than some of our other hot wing stops in Keystone but don’t spend too much time here or you will be fast out of cash and heading to the ATM before you order a second round of beer. We like to stop here becuase it’s on the way off the mountain and that is just plain easy….

Second Stop: Kickapoo Tavern, I know you just walked past it on your way to the Wolf Rock but we didn’t think you would be as comfortable walking into the wolf rock after 2 beers and a dozen wings at the Kickapoo Tavern first so head back over across River Run Village and pony up to the bar, we recommend sitting away from the doors because it will get cold with skiers in and out. You can order your wings here and make a mess because its busy enough no one will notice. The prices are slightly cheaper than at Wolf Rock but your only down to two choices, Hot or Thai, but your beer choices are better here. The wings are big, juicy, plenty of sauce, nothing to write home about but I sure won’t be upset with a thing after this hot wing stop in River Run Village.

Third Stop: Leave River Run Village and walk over to the Gateway Lodge, you can cut across the main skier parking lot and cut down into the front of Gateway. Walk to the far side just past the SummitCove check in office and stop over at the Haywood Cafe, here you can catch wing night on Sundays for 25cents a pop and order BBQ, Hot, or Hotter. The wings are dripping in sauce, plump fat chickens were rounded up for these hot wings, tons of meat, sauce, and always a $1 beer on tap for the must wash down order or hotters. They call them wingie dingies here but don’t worry, they are our top pick for wing and beer specials in Keystone. Enjoy this during football season and you might not leave!

Fourth Stop: Walk out the front door and head left, you will enjoy a moment of cold mountain air on your way over to the Snake River Saloon. The Snake is 1/2 fancy 1/2 bar crowd that won’t sit on the fancy side and might not be let in if they tried. Here at the snake you can enjoy hot wings with the locals and drink beer like a pro, reasonable prices and straight forward options, Hot Wings is all you need to say, no need to order how you like em cause they only come one way here, served hot, meaty, buffaloed. Just the way we like em, best served with an ice cold bud draft and your on your way to a sleepless gut wrenching night of hot wings revenge!

So if you were just looking for some wings and beer for a happy hour pit stop on your way back to your place in Keystone Colorado, head on over to the Snake River Saloon and pony up to the bar. However if you want to watch a game then the Haywood is a much better spot for watching sports and eating wings so if you are wanting to catch a game and eat wings they are hands down the winner.

Keystone Resort Culinary Festival

Enjoy a weekend of fine foods and wines this coming weekend March 5-7th in Keystone Resort Colorado.

Keystone Resort is putting on a winter culinary festival for your tastebuds to enjoy. You will need to make reservations for all of the events and you will want to do this as soon as you can!

Kicking off the fun on Friday starting at 10AM with a Kitchen Demo at the Aplenglow Stube on top of Keystone Mountian for only $5 you will enjoy some of the delicious american cuisine. The Alpenglow Stube is a fantastic award winning restaraunt that is a must do for your Keystone Vacation, however it can get pricey so you might enjoy this sample of goodness.

Ski for a couple of hours after this tasting and work up an appetite because coming up at 2pm we will be seeing you at one of several tastings, Margaritas and Tequilas at Parrot Eyes in River Run Village, Whiskey Blend tastings, and Specialty Rums at the Keystone Lodge in Lakeside Village, now your probably done skiing after these so make sure you leave some of your taste buds to head over to the Unique Red Wines tasting at the ski tip lodge. You will love this place, enjoy a cheese plate with your $20 tasting over here! They will be having a wine tasting at the Lodge too if you can not pull yourself away from the rums and whiskey in time and to keep things rolling you have two options. Head over to the Martini Tasting session at the Summit Seafood at the Inn in Keystone or the World Celebration of Wine at the Ski Tip again.

Now if you can pull off enjoying a couple of these tastings you should curl up into bed in one of our Keystone Rental homes and get ready for another great day of fun.

Saturday March 6th you can start the morning off the right way from 10am – noon at the Keystone Lodge and Spa. Enjoy a morning of Mimosa’s and spa samples including chari massages, hand massages and treatments and other spa and skin treatments with a light breakfast for $15. Not going to get much skiing done today but who cares when you can enjoy Mimosa’s and spa treatments, you might just turn this into a spa day instead!

If you are able to escape the spa don’t worry Keystone Resort is putting on a great day all over town, head over and catch the 11am Ice Carving Demo with Chef Steve Nguyen. They will be putting on a free ice carving demo and at the base of the gondola in River Run Village. They will be breaking out the chain saws and ice picks to really wow your eyes. This is a great activity if you have enjoyed too many whiskey and champagne tastings and ready for some lazy day fun in River Run Village.

Saturday will have multiple tastings and then the Grand Tasting will take place at the Outpost. Prices start at $99 per person and will take approximately 30 minutes to get there because you will be hopping gondolas on the way up. dress warm and bring your appetite you will enjoy samples of Keystone Resorts local specialty restaurants including Skit Tip Lodge, Keystone Ranch, Bighorn Steak House, Keysotne Seafood Company, Alpenglow Stube and usually the Keystone chefs from these will show up with some additional goodies to outperform one another. This is the main event for the tasting and the day will lead into another fun night of wine and cheese.

Sunday March 7th the Keystone Culinary Festival will come to an end. You can start the morning off with a Chocolate and Breakfast class which will last up to 2 hours and will take place the Keystone Conference Center. The Price is $50 for this 2 hour class and you will enjoy both eating and making cakes, chocolates, crepes, and baked good from Neds Bake SHop at the Conference Center in Keystone.
