Wondering what we are doing in your property? Take a look at our thorough checklists:
Nothing can be more rustic than staying at a property in East Keystone. This is where it all started back when Keystone founders Edna and Max Dercum owned and operated the Ski Tip Ranch and Ski Tip Lodge. Max and Edna turned an old stagecoach stop into the Ski Tip Lodge which housed the skiers for Arapahoe Basin. The Dercums opened both the Lodge and A-basin in 1946. Max also planned the development of Keystone Resort which opened in 1970. Their old ranch site borders the White River National Forest and is beautifully wooded giving the East Keystone Townhomes the feeling that you are away from the city and tucked into the peace and solitude of the mountains.
There are several lodging options to choose from in East Keystone and these lodgings have maintained the rustic atmosphere of Ski Tip Ranch. The properties here are an affordable option because they are not in the main village but instead a short shuttle drive away. Ski Tip Townhomes surround the Old Ski Tip Lodge which is now one of the premier restaurants at Keystone featuring four course dinners. These are large townhomes that will give your group plenty of space. They also have 2 outdoor hot tubs with a changing room and showers to enjoy after a day of adventure. Trappers Crossing Townhomes are across the road near the Snake River and also have a outdoor hot tub with changing rooms and showers. Settlers Creek Townhomes are just down the road across the Snake River. These large townhomes are furnished with mountain style and have Minnie’s Cabin; a log cabin which has a pool table, fireplace, and big screen tvs. An outdoor pool, hot tub, grill and outdoor fireplace are also connected to Minnie’s Cabin.
There is plenty to do around East Keystone. Enjoy the quaintness and history at the Ski Tip Lodge, ranked as one of the best restaurants in Colorado by Zagat. Rent some snowshoes or cross-country skis and follow the bike path to River Run. You can also drive up to the old mining town of Montezuma ten miles up the road and enjoy a peaceful ski or snowshoe along Peru Creek high up along the Continental Divide. There is also plenty to keep you busy at Keystone Resort. You can take the free Keystone shuttle to enjoy the shops and restaurants of River Run or Lakeside Village. Keystone offers plenty of activities for the non-skier: ice skating on the largest zamboni outdoor ice skating rink in North America, dinner and scenic sleigh rides, snowcat tours, snowmobiling, and the kid’s favorite – tubing.
So even if you are not coming to Keystone to ski, you will enjoy plenty of activities to keep you busy. Sometimes the best way to enjoy the mountains is getting away from the ski crowds and finding the beauty that brought Edna and Max here.
I have been very happy with SummitCove since the first day that I’ve decided to use them as the property management company for my condos. Will it Be a Good Winter? What is the Outlook? If only Crystal Balls could be used, answering this question would be easier. Bookings depend on many factors such as economy perception, consumer confidence index, consumer snow perception (or “hype” as we like to call it), and of course, SNOW.
Heading into the 2014-2015 ski season, we see some indicators that are looking positive. Consumer confidence is on the increase, but not yet at level seen before the Great Recession. Why is this important? Consumer confidence is an economic indicator which measures the degree of optimism that consumers feel about the overall state of the economy and their personal financial situation. This boils down to how people feel about spending disposable income on vacations or things that are not necessities.
Next is Snow Perception and Hype. Starting at Labor Day each year, the ski resorts kick into high gear and start showing people skiing down fluffy powder runs on TV and winter banner ads are all over the Internet. Since last year was a great snow year, we also have the opportunity to ride on last year’s marketing from Mother Nature. This is also turning out to be an El Nino weather pattern year which is favorable for moisture in Colorado. It has also been a fairly wet summer with no massive wildfires to hit the news. At this point in time, (and every year for that matter) the hype is high, but this indicator is simply a waiting game.
SNOW – Nothing does more marketing for the ski industry than a whiteout storm during a Denver Broncos football game. Weather warnings, airport shutdowns in Denver, and The Weather Channel all feed into spreading the word of snow. If the snow falls, we get people…lots of them. Local snow also invigorates the local Front Range skiers to head to the hills. The more snow, the better.
All of these factors combine to define what kind of revenue you will see generated in your property. The constantly increasing factors in the equation are the marketing, training of our sales team, the sales skills of our vacation planners, and the improvements we have made over the summer to jockey for top position in being able to generate revenue for you. So….the answer to will it be a good season? We’ll see. 🙂
Keystone has added a new snow depth camera so you can see the snow depth live. The camera takes pictures every 5 minutes so you can do a time lapse video and see how quickly the snow piles up. The Keystone snow depth camera is a great tool for seeing exactly how quickly snow piled up during the night or day.
