Keystone Colorado Nightlife

Keystone Resort Nightlife – a night on the town

Whether you are a 20 something looking for other 20 somethings to share beers and good times with or if you are seeing a more sophisticated setting, there is definitely something here for you.  Keystone resort has it all – cozy and elegant wining and dining at the top of the mountain to dive bars where hats and snow pants are widely accepted.

Aside from the widely advertised sleigh rides to the remotely elegant Keystone Ranch or the mountain top restaurants Der Fondue Chissel and Alpenglow Stube only accessible by gondola Keystone Colorado has a variety of après ski and nightlife that everyone can enjoy.

Although nightlife in River Run Village is catered to tourists, it is still a fantastic place to be.  Kickapoo tavern houses delicious micro brews and tasty all American glorified bar food.  Just across the way the Spoon cafe is rather new with a normal full bar and somewhat overpriced food.  Parrot eyes is your place to be for some Mexican food and home to the biggest drink in Keystone – The Fishbowl is an mammoth drink that requires you and two others to imbibe.  Overall the bars and night life in River run are geared for the more sophisticated atmosphere and you can be sure that drinks are many dollars more than you will pay if stray away from the River Run Village.

Speaking of dollars – there are two places in Keystone that offer dollar beers all day everyday!  The Haywood Cafe is a cozy little cafe in the Gateway Lodge (same building as our office) with great eats which are even tastier washed down with a few dollar beers.  If you are a hair-of-the-dog type, The Haywood has delectable bloody marys as well as glorious mimosas.  Just down the street is The Goat – known for its soup and whisky The Goat can get down with the best of them.  They usually have a live band on Sunday nights, you can enjoy practically any board game, foosball, or pool, and the atmosphere is more local and casual.  If you’re looking for great live music, scrumptious appetizers and dancing, the Snake River Saloon is the place to be.

Across the Highway in the Mountain View Plaza live Summit Pizza and Dos Locos.  Dos Locos offers authentic Mexican food and a fantastic happy hour – $ .30 wings, $1.00 tacos and $5.00 pitchers are prices that are hard to beat.  If you are inclined to exercise your vocal chords Thursday night is Karaoke night which is always a great time.  Should you think that those prices aren’t low enough for you, walk down the plaza to Summit Pizza and on a Monday or Wednesday they serve $ .50 beers and $1.00 slices until 11pm.

So if you’re brave enough to stray out of River Run, there are definitely deals to be had and if you’re looking to get a feel for the locals, definitely plan on leaving River Run Village.  Nightlife in Keystone is a real hoot to say the least and there is great beer and great times to be had all over the place in this town.

Why Keystone Colorado is so family friendly

What do you do if you have a family vacation to Keystone, Colorado scheduled this winter and have a baby or toddler to entertain? You can still could enjoy winter activities with a little one if you follow these tips. We pride ourselves in making it easy for people tobring kids on vacation and enjoy how family friendly Keystone Colorado really is!

Since our son was born four years ago, we have invited friends and family to come along nearly every time we go to Keystone Colorado for some winter adventures and skiing. The first time we did this, we rented a one bedroom condo that slept 4 comfortably, reasoning that two little babies wouldn’t take up much space. We were smart enough to know NEVER to do that again!

Traveling with a baby means traveling with all of the babies’ things. We had two pack and plays, two strollers, etc. This meant our ski bags stayed in the car and our ski jackets and ski gear was frozen in the morning. Since then, we have opted for a condo at Keystone Resort that sleeps more people than we need. This way, two babies can be put in separate rooms and the chances that they will wake each other, or you, are decreased by a huge factor.

Another thing to consider when booking your vacation to Keystone Colorado is the availability of baby equipment. Anybody who has flown with a baby in tow knows that keeping the baby happy while traveling is enough of a challenge without also trying to cart around a pack and play, high chair, stroller, toys and baby back pack. Ask the property manager if your ski condo is equipped with the items you will need, or if there is a place in town where these things can be rented. Many times the property manager will gladly provide these extra items for a slight additional cost. When you consider how hard it is to bring everything with you, it’s a small price to pay.

If you do have access to a baby back pack and are willing to divert from downhill skiing or other extreme sports for a day or two, consider cross-country skiing or snowshoeing with your baby. You will burn many more calories with all of the added weight, and your child will get a taste of a Keystone Colorado winter day. You can ski and snowshoe the groomed or packed trails of the Keystone Nordic Center. The trail fee, at $9.00 per person is a fraction of the cost of lift tickets.

Tubing is also an adventure to consider. We have found that nothing excites our little boy like sliding down the hill on a tube with Mom or Dad at Keystone Resort. The tubing hill is has a gentle slope, so it is easy to navigate and the kids can still walk up the hill on their own. What better way to guarantee a nice long afternoon nap than playing on the hill all morning? At only $12 per hour per tube, this is also an affordable family alternative to downhill skiing. An hour is about anyone can handle by the way.

During the winter months, the fireworks are shot off at the base of River Run Village in Keystone. The little ones will be delighted about the fireworks that can be seen from nearly everywhere in Keystone. Unlike summertime fireworks, they might even still be awake to see the whole show!

Have a great time in Keystone Colorado and don’t be afraid to try something new with your children. Before you travel, make sure all the baby or child equipment can be provide for you. Especially when carting ski gear, this will save you from having to carry twice as much stuff.
