Fishing at Lake Dillon, Colorado

A surprise to many, Colorado is known as a great place for fishing, even having some Gold Rated waters like the Blue River, and world-class fishing holes throughout the state. With majestic mountains, bright blue skies, wide open lakes, winding rivers and streams, you can not beat Colorado for its scenic fishing spots throughout the state. There is literally a little bit of everything for every angler out there.

Lake Dillon Reservoir (aka "Lake Dillon") is a great place to give your try at fishing while you're in the area, close to the Town of Dillon, as well as Frisco and Silverthorne, Colorado. You definitely can not beat the dramatic scenery in Summit County. Lake Dillon is also one of the largest bodies of water in central Colorado with over 25 miles of shoreline with rainbow trout, brook trout, browns and Kokanee and Coho salmon.

Lake Dillon typically begins to ice-out between May 15 and June 10th. During the two to three week period after the ice-out, you'll find one of the best times to fish the lake. With wonderful fishing from the lake shore, you'll also want to try cruising across the lake on a boat, allowing you to work the inlets and bays as well.

If you're looking for a more planned out fishing experience, instead of just standing on the lakeshore, you might want to try a fishing venture like Big Ed's Fishing Ventures. You'll experience the beautiful Dillon reservoir at 9,000 feet while spin cast fishing for huge Rainbow trout, Brown trout, and Kokanee salmon. Or you can arrange a scenic cruise & simply enjoy the splendor of boating while taking in gorgeous views of the Ten Mile Range & Buffalo Mountain. Reservations are recommended. Call 970-453-1869 for more information and rates.

Make sure to check the Colorado Division of Wildlife for special regulations of the reservoir.
