Ice Fishing on Lake Dillon with Alpine Fishing Adventures

Last week, several SummitCove Lodging employees went ice fishing for the first time, with Alpine Fishing Adventures in Dillon, Colorado. Everyone had a blast, learning the basics and perfecting our fishing techniques, while enjoying great views of the lake and Buffalo Mountain in the distance. And while we were only out on Lake Dillon for a few short hours, everyone caught at least one fish!
We started our day at 7:30am on Lake Dillon, where we met Randy, our ice fishing guide for the day. Randy had everything ready for us, all we needed was a fishing license, which can be purchased for $9 at the local Sports Authority. Holes were quickly drilled in the ice, and a pop-up was placed over them, to keep everyone warm while fishing. We were each given a pole, with bait readied, and a few tips on what to do if we got a bite. Then the waiting began.
Throughout the morning, Randy continued to give great information about what kind of fish we were trying to catch and how best to trick them into biting. We switched our bait a few times and moved around a bit… and before we knew it, we were getting bites! It being my first time, I am proud to report that I caught two fish by the end of the day! At the end of the day, Randy prepared the fish, and our coworker took them home to cook for dinner later!
I’m happy to report that ice fishing was a success for our entire group, thanks to Randy and Alpine Fishing Adventures! This is a great alternative activity to take a day off from the mountain and is great for families, or groups with varying ages and skill levels. If you’re looking for a unique experience in Summit County, be sure to go ice fishing with Alpine Fishing Adventures! Don’t forget to bring your hot chocolate in a thermos!
