Planning Your Ski Trip on a Budget: Part 2 – Location & Where to Stay

When it comes to finding a place to stay for your Keystone ski vacation, it can be a bit overwhelming with the wealth of options that the resorts have to offer, especially if you've never been here! In Keystone specifically, nearly all of the lodging consist of privately owned condominiums. SummitCove Lodging has a wide variety of options, ranging from hotel-like studios all the way up to large private homes and everything in-between! We certainly have something to fit everyone's budget and needs and can also help you figure out exactly what it is that you are looking for by narrowing down what is important to you.

Some things to consider when you start thinking about lodging are how close you want to be the the slopes, restaurants and shopping.  Being in the main village, River Run, offers all of these conveniences, but often charges a premium to be in such a great location. These properties also are typically a bit smaller in square footage than some of our other properties in other villages at Keystone, such as West or North Keystone.  Do you want to be in the heart of the action or would you prefer a quieter spot tucked away in the woods?

Lakeside Village or Mountain House are alternative options to River Run Village. They do still have a central village area like River Run, but don't have as much going on and tend to be quieter and less busy. There are still options available at both of these villages to walk to restaurants and bars or to the Peru Lift in Mountain House or ice skating rink at Lakeside Village.  Slopeside studios are one of our most affordable options and you can still walk to the lifts!

You also need to think about what amenities are offered at the property and building, such as a pool, hot tubs, elevators, balcony, parking, common spaces and fitness center.  If you are traveling without a car, maybe it is important to you to be able to walk everywhere. Or, if you have kids, maybe you know that they will want to be at the pool every night, so you want to make sure you will have access to a nice pool area. Traveling with an elderly person may mean you need a stairs-free entrance.

Since this blog is referring to those of us on a budget, to get the most value for your money, I would recommend staying somewhere that is not necessarily within walking distance to the slopes, but on the shuttle route. Being right on the shuttle route provides you with easy access to and from the slopes each day. The properties that we offer in North Keystone and West Keystone tend to come at a very attractive price point and vary in size depending on your group. Being on a shuttle route will prevent you from having to deal with the traffic and having to worry about parking.   The shuttle is extremely easy to use and makes stops just about every 20 minutes.  There is also a county-wide free shuttle called the Summit Stage that can take you to other resorts like Araphoe Basin.

The best thing to do when choosing your condo is to make a wishlist and decide on the top 3 things you want when you are picturing your perfect ski vacation.  You will probably have to give and take on a few things in order to fit your budget, but if you know what your 'MUST-HAVES' are then it will be much easier to narrow down the options.  When you are searching for properties on the SummitCove website, you can sort by village, amenities, and more to make your search easier! Be sure to check out our google maps to see the exact property locations. If you need help or have questions, give us a call and one of our vacation planners can help you find the perfect property for you in Keystone!  We know the ins and outs and can assure that you will love your ski vacation condo!
