There’s snow on the slopes, and Keystone Resort just kicked off what promises to be a great ski and snowboard season, but there is also great summer news for the resort as well! The Ski Area Recreational Opportunity Enhancement Act has been signed by President Obama. Look for yet more summer activities in Keystone in the coming years!
With more recreational opportunities for families, it is expected that these added activities for visitors in the summer months. The bill will allow for resorts operating on federal land to receive permits for activities other than alpine and Nordic skiing. The bill is designed to enhance mountain activities in the generally less busy summer months with expansion of bike trails, Frisbee golf courses, zip lines, rope courses, alpine slides and more. The bill will impact as many as 22 of Colorado’s 26 ski resort including Keystone Resort.
As an expected benefit, the new law will increase the number of full time, year round resort employment and add to revenues from tourism. The details of how these plans will be implemented will now fall to the U.S. Forest Service and the ski resorts. SummitCove will keep you up to date with any proposals, plans or expected additions to Keystone Resort!
