Arapahoe Basin is Now Open for the 2017 / 2018 Ski Season in Colorado

Arapahoe Basin is now officially open for the 2017 / 2018 ski season here in Colorado!  Recent big, early season snowfall and cool fall temperatures helped the resort make opening day a reality.  Typically the resort is one of the first to open in Colorado, with this year being no exception and opening about a week earlier than they did on 2016’s opening day, October 21.  Loveland Ski Area has commented that it shouldn’t be far behind and is already making snow, pushing to get open as soon as possible.  Keystone Resort is also now less than a month away from their scheduled opening day on Friday, November 10.  Epic Passes are currently on sale, with a variety of options that include skiing and both Arapahoe Basin and Keystone Ski Resorts.

Excited skiers and snowboards were waiting in line well before today’s 9am start time, with some even camping out nearby the evening before to try and get the coveted ‘first chair’ of the season! Many visitors dress up in fun costumes or bright neon ski clothing or even Halloween costumes for opening day.  The energy level is high and opening day is nothing short of a fun time.

Get excited for Keystone’s opening day and take advantage of SummitCove Vacation Lodging’s opening weekend lodging sale,  offering 50% off lodging at select properties.  Opening Day is tons of fun with first tracks and lots of freebies like free coffee, doughnut holes and prizes!

Kids Ski Free at Arapahoe Basin This November & December

If you are looking for a good time to visit the mountains this year with your family, you want might to take advantage of the Kids Ski Free Program at Arapahoe Basin!  In an effort to push youth into the sport and promote skiing and riding to the younger generations, Arapahoe Basin is offering free lift tickets to youth ages 14 and younger from November 30 til December 19, 2014.

The program is almost too good to be true, since there are no lodging requirements and no adult pass purchase required, it’s just plain and simple: kids ski free.  This is a great time to bring your kids out for multiple days on the mountain to really progress their skills and get them comfortable on their skis or snowboard without breaking the bank.

Arapahoe Basin will also be offering discounted lessons during this time, with $10 off all class-style ski and snowboard lessons at the A-Basin Snowsports School. Lessons are one of the best ways to kick-start your child’s skiing or riding and can also be a great way to bring them up to the next level if they already know the basics or want to work on specific skills.

All you need to do to get your FREE kids tickets is to stop by the A-Basin ticket window with your child.  You’ll need to get a new paper ticket every day that you wish to get on the mountain.  Adults without a season pass might want to purchase an Elevation 4-Pack, which offers four days at Arapahoe Basin during the 2014-15 season with no blackout dates for just $129, an incredible value at about $32 a day.  Additional days can be purchased for just $59.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort Extends Their Season!

Cooler temperatures and some late season spring snowstorms have allowed Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort to extend their ski season an extra weekend.  With original plans to close this weekend on Sunday, June 2, the mountain will reopen again next weekend for skiing and riding on June 7 – 9.  Spring skiing conditions have been great and people are holding on to winter sports as long as they can.  Lift tickets for late season skiing and riding at A-Basin are discounted, just $45 for adults and $35 for youth.  For those who bought next season’s pass, the skiing for the rest of this year is free! Why not come out for a few more days on the mountain… even if it is just to brag to your friends that you are skiing in June?!

Late Season Skiing During a Previous Year at Arapahoe Basin

New Snow & Spring Events: A-Basin Is Where It’s At!

‘April showers’ have been true to their name, dumping plenty of snow here in Summit County this month, meaning we have a few more months to come of great spring skiing at Arapahoe Basin.  Over 19 inches of snow has fallen over the first 12 days of April, which means the resort should be able to stay open for awhile to come.

Arapahoe Basin is one of the few ski resorts in Colorado that doesn’t have a scheduled closing date.  The mountain typically closes sometime in June, but it all depends on the snow.  Last season ended relatively early for the resort, closing on May 6, yet two years they stayed open until the 4th of July! (Think swimsuits and sunblock!)

Spring crowds at Arapahoe Basin Colorado

A-Basin is well-known for its spring skiing and awesome events lineup.  People rent out parking spaces at the infamous ‘beach’ area at the base to enjoy the spring weather and sunshine while they make some turns on the mountain and enjoy a cold beverage and barbecue picnic.  This year is no different, featuring fresh snow and a can’t-miss spring events lineup. There are plenty of chances to see some live music with the ‘Shakin at the Basin’ free concert series and our favorite event finishes off May, the Festival of Brewpubs.  See the full lineup below.

SummitCove Lodging has over 300 properties in Keystone, just a 5 minute drive from A-Basin.  For a limited time only, we are offering 30% off lodging for the rest of April and May, making it easy to come up and enjoy some last turns of the season before the snow melts!  Also, if you purchase an Arapahoe Basin Season Pass for next ski season, you are able to use it to ski for the remainder of this season.  It’s not over yet- come visit Keystone and Arapahoe Basin this weekend!

A-Basin Becoming More Kid-Friendly with Magic Carpet Lift

Magic Carpet Being Installed at A-Basin Kids Area

A-Basin is working on their beginner learning area and will be adding another conveyor magic carpet lift to their mix, called the Pika Place.  The lift is being installed Southeast of the bottom of the Black Mountain Express, within the teaching area that is designed for small children.  The lift will be fairly short with a very gentle slope.  This new lift is aimed at helping the smaller kids catch on easier, speeding up the teaching progression and making it more fun.  Installation is set for early October.

Although Arapahoe Basin is known for its steeper slopes, it is still a great mountain for beginners to learn.  Arapahoe Basin offers both half-day and full-day lessons, as well as multi-day programs for kids of all ages. . (and adults!) Their Snowsports School creates a fun learning environment for kids of all abilities to develop their skills.  Choose from private lessons, group classes, or one of their many multi-week clubs where kids can learn skills and make friends, being in the same group each week.  They even have a mini-park designed just for kids! The layout of A-Basin is also family friendly, with all the runs on the front side funneling down to a central base area. The Molly Hogan lift is a gentle and easy place to learn, and its easy to avoid crowds. There are plenty of easy greens and blue groomer runs to practice on.

For those looking to visit Arapahoe Basin this winter, it is important to note that there are no lodging options at the Resort, the closest accommodations are 6 miles down the road in Keystone.  SummitCove Lodging offers Keystone condos and private home rentals at affordable rates.  Check out some of our most popular properties, River Run Condos here.
