We are spoooktacularly busy up in Keystone today. We woke up to freezing temperatures and a chilly snow-filled Halloween! We had some help from Mother Nature providing some good cold temperatures and some natural snowfall, but to make sure we have a good solid base, Keystone has the snow guns blowing hard and are working to make sure we are ready for our opening day next week on Friday, November 9!
If you are around in Keystone today please stop by and say hi and enjoy some scary stories and ghooling good times! We have a secret stash of candy and are offering free snow dance moves to kids that come in the front desk dressed up today!
With some ghostly good luck we have snow in the forecast for Keystone for most of the next 7 days and a high temperature of 34 for the next 10 days. We are certain to have enough ghost dandruff (fresh snow) to enjoy some howling fast first runs of the season on November 9th.
Have a safe, fun and scary Halloween from your friendly SummitCove Team!

There’s been a slight chill in the evening air here recently at Keystone Resort – it’s not quite Fall yet, but it’s starting to peek around the corner. Winter will be here before we know it.
Last year on September 15 we saw the first ‘real’ dusting of snow up at Arapahoe Basin, of course followed by some very beautiful and warm Fall days, but it was just enough to get everyone excited for the upcoming ski season. When will the first snow come this year?

It’s finally starting to feel like winter time here in Keystone, Colorado! We are counting down the days until Keystone Ski Resort opens for the 2016 – 2017 ski season on Friday, November 4. Opening day will provide around 50 acres of fun for you to enjoy. Keystone has a great team of snowmakers that have been working on getting the snow pumping and ready for us to ski. All of us here in the mountains perform daily snow dance rituals to ensure the natural stuff keeps coming too!
Keystone is planning on mixing it up this year and taking a new approach to opening day. Instead of setting ‘Spring Dipper’ on the East side of the mountain as the traditional first run to open, this year the Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon trails will be the first rideable trails, offering top to bottom access that will allow more accessibility to a wider variety of guests and ability levels. It will also allow Keystone to open the Mountain House Base Area, additional runs and Area 51 terrain park sooner than it has in past years. A-51 is scheduled to open within a week or two of opening day and the Mountain House Base Area around or before November 19, just in time for Thanksgiving! This will allow all of our Mountain House guests to enjoy easier access to the slopes sooner than previous years. It will also allow the park crew to focus their efforts all in one area, instead of spreading too thin across multiple parks during the first few months of the season. There will be a small park area open on opening day, just not in the past-standard ‘Ranger’ area.
Opening day at Keystone is always a fun celebration! Enjoy free coffee, hot chocolate and donut holes from Keystone’s Chef Ned! KSMT radio will be broadcasting live on-site to get everyone pumped up for ski season! Look for tons of giveaways at the gondola plaza as well, including Kidtopia Prize Packs for all kids while supplies last. The first 500 people in line will get a free reusable Keystone water bladder and at 8:45am they will be giving away a Keystone Prize pack.
If you are planning to get first tracks of the 16 / 17 ski season, why not take advantage of our First / Last Tracks Lodging Club? For just $369, you can spend both opening AND closing weekend in a one bedroom condo in the heart of River Run. Kick off the season and then be there to close it out as well! SummitCove has you covered for the best lodging deals on opening, closing, and every other weekend of the ski season!
Arapahoe Basin opened for the 2011 ski season yesterday, October 14. There was an excitement in the air as many flocked to get their first tracks of the season. A mixed crowd of people headed out to enjoy the snow- locals, day visitors from the Denver area, and others who traveled further from other parts of the state and country to enjoy a Keystone Vacation, and eager to test out the fresh snow. The conditions were spectacular- it was a beautiful sunny day in the mountains and there was a solid 18 inch base of both fresh and man made snow. There is no better time than now to start your ski season, nothing beats skiing or riding on a 60 degree bluebird day!
A-Basin is currently selling A-Basin Bonus Passes online and are a great choice for those wishing to ski at both Arapahoe Basin and Keystone for multiple days this season.

If you were unable to make it for this year’s opening day at A-Basin, you might want to consider coming up to Keystone on November 4th to participate in Keystone’s Opening Day 2011. This year’s opening day celebration will be named “Dercum Day,” as a tribute to the late Max Dercum; one of the original founders of Keystone Resort who passed away earlier this fall, just short of his 99th birthday. In addition to the first chance to hit the slopes, Dercum Day will feature free donuts, hot chocolate, coffee, giveaways and more! Look for the SummitCove Yeti on the prowl in River Run with free handouts too! SummitCove is running a great sale on River Run Condos for opening day weekend: Stay 2 nights in Keystone Resort and get your 3rd night free! Check out Keystone’s Opening Day 2011 Availability here!
Well it’s finally here; Keystone opens tomorrow! Unfortunately, there isn’t any snow in the forecast, but they are calling for sunny skies. So it should be a beautiful day to enjoy your first day back on snow. Word from Mountain Operations is that they will be opening top to bottom with three trails; Spring Dipper, Upper Dutchman & River Run. They will also have a great early season terrain park, for all those jibbers, with 25+ features.
According to Keystone’s Web site the schedule tomorrow is as follows:
8:00am – Donuts, Coffee and Hot Cocoa at the Keystone tent by the River Run Gondola.
9:00am – Gondola starts running
4:00pm – Lifts close but the après party goes on at Parrot Eyes in River Run Village.
Unfortunately, lift ticket prices have not been released. But we are told that they will be around $70 tomorrow.
And if you are looking for another good “Happy Hour” destination, Dos Locos, in Mountain View Plaza comes highly recommended. Friday is also “Free Money Friday,” you can put your name in the pot for a chance to win free money! Since, a winner hasn’t been picked for a while now the pot is at $450, you don’t want to miss out!
It’s still a little early to go skiing, but Loveland and A Basin have already received a light dusting their mountains. Both ski resorts are expected to open by the end of October and Keystone opens November 5! This first batch of snowfall definitely reminds us that ski season is coming sooner than we think. Here are some pictures of the first breath of snow of the Rockies!
Ski Season is coming, grab those boots, boards and snow pants and get ready for a great 2010-2011 season!
