Start the weekend off right with Keystone Resort’s Friday Afternoon Club! Head up to the Summit House, via the River Run Gondola to enjoy an evening of live music, drink and food specials and activities including horseshoes, corn hole, ladder ball, bocce ball and more!  Enjoy the spectacular views from an Adirondack chair or take a scenic nature hike. Free live music will feature a variety of bands throughout the summer.  All activities are free and can be checked out through the Overlook Grill.  Foot passenger rides on the gondola are FREE on Fridays from 3pm- close.  This afternoon features music from The Luv Brothers, a Summit-County based band, playing not only high energy bluegrass country originals, but also a mix of cover songs which they put their own unique spin on.

Great American Taxi has built a hefty following the old fashioned way. With front man Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon) at the wheel people will recognize threads of the Leftover Salmon fabric all the while being driven by original songwriting and musicianship. The band hit the Top 10 on the Americana Radio Charts with their 2010 CD release Reckless Habits and have strong rotation on various Sirius Satellite Radio stations. In September of 2011, the band released their new studio recording, Paradise Lost, recorded in Nashville, TN and produced by Todd Snider (who also performs on the CD). The record also features guest performances from Tim O’Brien, Elizabeth Cook and Barry Sless. Great American Taxi traffics their collective past helping create their new Americana without borders brand of music.

Summit of Bluegrass & Brews 2012: Colorado Beer Tasting & Free Live Music On June 23

Back for another year, the Summit of Bluegrass and Brews will return to Marina Park in Dillon, Colorado on June 23, 2012 with over 25 Colorado breweries. During the beer tasting event from 1:00-5:00, visitors can enjoy live music by Marty Jones and the Great Unknowns. Tickets to the unlimited beer tasting cost only $30 and benefit the Colorado Brewers’ Guild and the Dillon Business Association. Food vendors will be on site with lots of tasty options.

Following the beer tasting, move down to the Lake Dillon Amphitheatre for a great, FREE concert with the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience! David Grisman has played with Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Bonnie Raitt, Doc Watson, and other renowned artists. His music is a mix of bluegrass, folk, jazz, and international sounds – this is definitely a show you don’t want to miss!

Frisco BBQ Challenge Comes to Town Next Weekend, June 14 – 16

The 19th Annual Colorado Barbecue Challenge is coming back to Frisco, Colorado on June 14-16, 2012. This event is put on by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and attracts more than 60 teams from across the country to compete for top honors as the best barbecuer in the Rockies! This is a fun event that features lots of activities, including pig races, a 5K Bacon Burner run, live music, an exclusive chef demo and a private Breckenridge Distillery whiskey tour with the winning barbecue teams. New this year to the event is the first Bacon Burner, a 5K run on Saturday, June 16th at 9:30 a.m. Registrants will receive a signature Barbecue Challenge t-shirt and a beer coupon to use during the event.

This is a family friendly event for all ages and with free admission, it’s the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy barbecue and the beautiful weather. Attendees can purchase hog-back tickets, Frisco’s BBQ currency, to pay for food and drinks and use them at participating retail stores and restaurants along Main Street. In addition to the family fun, foodies have a chance to enjoy the celebrity chef demo with Jenna Johansen at the Viking kitchen gazebo. Johansen is a a contestant on Bravo TV’s new hit show “Around the World in 80 Plates” and is the former executive chef of Dish.

The Barbecue Challenge is open to the public with free live music including a kick off concert on June 14, at 7:45 pm with the Motet. The live music continues at the BBQ challenge on Friday and Saturday including: Fishbone, Sons of Bill, CJ Chenier & The Red Hot Louisiana Band. Proceeds from the Colorado BBQ Challenge will benefit more than eight non-profits, including Advocates for Assault, Summit County Restaurant Association, High Country Conservation, Summit Independent Business Alliance, Mountain Mentors, Women of the Summit, and ProStart, a statewide program providing scholarships to Summit High School students that aspire to have a career in the hospitality industry.

Live Music this Holiday Weekend at the Snake River Saloon

Funkiphino has been described as Colorado’s “12 piece funk sensation” with their fun, upbeat tunes.   In 2004 the band released their debut CD “Lovin’ Life” and followed with 2 additional albums.  Their most recent album, titled ‘Live Coverage’ was recorded live in January of 2009 at the historic Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado.   Their high-energy funk sound is a combination of explosive horns, a Hammond organ and thumping bass with amazing vocals. They have been voted Best Funk Band by Westword Magazine and were chosen to play at the 55th Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.
