So you know you want to reserve a vacation rental in Keystone where you can walk to the slopes, but there seem to be lots of options. How do you narrow it down? Here are 3 of our favorite walk to the slopes lodging picks based on budget!
-Luxury Stay- Lone Eagle Condos Lone Eagle Condos at Keystone is one of the only ski-in, ski-out properties at Keystone Resort. The River Run ski slope is literally right outside of this building and some of the condos in this complex actually overlook the slopes! You can’t get any closer than that! This building has an awesome pool and hot tub area that backs up to the slopes. Enjoy spacious living spaces, luxurious finishes and multiple bedroom condos at Lone Eagle.
-Budget Friendly Choice- Slopeside Condos Being on a budget doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice convenience! Slopeside condos sit at the edge of the Mountain House Base Area and you can be on the Peru lift in just 3 minutes after you leave your condo. The Slopeside condos are studio condos with efficiency kitchens that typically sleep up to 4 people. Take advantage of the free resort shuttle if you want to head into River Run or over to Lakeside Village for dinner or ice skating. The building was recently renovated in 2016 and has two new hot tubs and an awesome outdoor fire pit with slope views!

The enchantment and magic of the words “ski in ski out” evoke the greatest of emotions in any resort enthusiast. A property that is truly ski in ski out means snapping into your gear and skiing down to the lift, watching people make turns from your bedroom or porch, lunch on the balcony and skiing directly up to the door of your building with no walking involved! In Keystone, many properties that are advertised are a ski in ski out are more of a ‘short hike’ away from the slopes. Websites, like SummitCove.com in Keystone will tell you exactly how many yards you are away from the lifts and show you on a google map exactly where the property is located and how to get to the nearest lift.
The only 2 buildings in Keystone that truly are ski in ski out properties are Lone Eagle and The Timbers. These properties are situated on River Run directly below Ina’s way above the River Run Gondola and Summit Express. Staying here means no walking to the lifts and no walking back to the buildings – you ski directly up to your door!
There are many other “basically ski in ski out” properties in Keystone that are extremely close and a very easy flat, and non-treacherous walk to the lifts. The “basically ski in ski out” properties to the lifts on the Mountain House side are at Slopeside and Chateau DuMont – you can be out your front door and at the lift in under two minutes walking time to the Peru lift. Just beyond these buildings are going to be Key Condo and Ironwood Townhomes which are about a 5 minute walk over to the Peru lift and directly behind the free skier parking at the Pika Lot.
On the River Run Village side, there are also a few properties that are “basically ski in ski out” allowing a few minutes walk . Any property in the River Run Village is also a less than 5 minute walk through the village which folks typically find relatively painless. The Springs and Red Hawk are going to be the closest to the gondola followed by Arapahoe Lodge, Jackpine and Black Bear. Situated right behind these buildings are Silvermill, Expedition Station, Dakota and Buffalo. In River Run Village, you have the convenience of walking to a good number of shops, restaurants and bars.
If you are willing to endure a 10 – 15 minute walk on the footpath through the wetlands you might consider staying at one of our properties in Mountain House such as Snow Dance Manor, Cinnamon Ridge, or Gateway Lodge.
Depending on your budget what amenities you are looking for, Keystone Resort has a wide variety of properties from the “truly ski in ski out” to “short hike” away from the lifts. Keystone also runs a complimentary resort shuttle, meaning any property in Keystone is just a short walk or lift from the slopes. SummitCove can help find the perfect property for you and your group no matter what you are looking for!

Well, as predicted we did get some more snow today, at least a good two inches! And it is supposed to snow on and off for the rest of the week. Making things look great for the weekend…have you booked your reservation yet?
With all this early season snow, it is looking like it is going to be a snowy season! Have you considered a season pass? It is a super cost-effective way to enjoy your time on the slopes. We just got word that Colorado Pass sales have been extended until November 21. For $479 you get unlimited skiing or riding at Keystone, Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge. As well as 10 restricted days at Vail and Beaver Creek, and 5 restricted days at Heavenly and Northstar-at-Tahoe. It’s a great alternative for folks who plan to spend the majority of their days in Summit County, and a lot cheaper than the Epic Pass. Go to Coloradopass.com for more details and to learn where you can purchase this pass.
If you are a ski-in ski-out fan you are in luck! Lone Eagle 3001 is one of my favorite ski-in ski-out locations in Keystone. Everything about this property screams luxury! From the custom granite counter tops to the stainless steel appliances, there really was no expense spared for the design of Lone Eagle 3001. This is a beautiful 2 bedroom 2 bath that actually sleeps up to 9. One of my favorite aspects of this property is that it is right next to the Snake River. At night if you crack your windows just a little (especially in the Summer) and you can hear the river winding through the village. During the winter, getting to the lifts is a cinch! Ski lockers are provided in the lobby area which are very close to the slope access door.
Once you walk out the door, drop your skis on the snow, click in, and ski 50 yards to either the high speed quad or the River Run Gondola. If you are here to relax, the pool and hot tub set up is wonderful. The hot tub is right next to the slopes so you can watch everyone freeze to death while you are roasty toasty in a hot tub with a beer (no glass please). I have skied past those hot tubs hundreds of times and still get jealous on a cold, blustery day. After a long day of skiing and hot tubing, I really don’t blame you for walking right past the work out facility. However, if you are into that sort of thing on a vacation, feel free to enjoy the fully equipped work out room. Once you get back to your room, chill out on the couch, try not to fall asleep, and enjoy the HDTV in the living room. It sounds like your exciting vacation day is over, but it’s not. You haven’t even eaten anything yet. In the River Run Village, which is just a short walk away, there is everything from a quick burger at New Moon Cafe to fine Dining at either Wolf Rock Brewery or the Alpen Glow Stube. Everything is at your finger tips when you stay at Lone Eagle 3001. I highly recommend that you stay here whenever you come to Keystone.
