Although it may be a little to early to get excited about snow- we can’t help it! Those in Summit County this morning may have noticed some white stuff on some of the surrounding mountain peaks- SNOW! Chilly temperatures and rainy weather turned to snow at the higher elevations in Summit County last night, creating some beautiful snow-capped peaks. We hope this is a sign of a good winter to come! Check out these photos of Peak 1 over the Dillon Reservoir this morning, captured by Matt Renoux, from 9news.com.
Camp Keystone is a fun way for kids to learn how to ski or snowboard at Keystone Resort, mixing lessons in with a wide variety of other activities that keep kids involved and having fun! Instead of kicking and screaming their way into ski school, your kids will be begging you take them to Camp Keystone this ski season! Kids who participate can enjoy things like having the same instructor every day, participating in fun kid-friendly activities, and skiing in progressive learning areas. Kids will be just as excited to jump in the snowy powder as they would be running full speed towards the lake at summer camp!
The Camp Keystone area is located at the bottom of the Mountain House Base Area with a nice variety of terrain grouped in one big area. Kids start out on the four magic carpets which each progressively step up in difficulty and once they are ready, they move on to the Discovery Chair Lift. When you book your child for three or more days at camp they are guaranteed to have the same camp ‘counselor’ each day. This really helps them get comfortable around their instructor and keep moving forward each day, with the child able to developing more trust in their instructor and confidence in themselves each day.
Other perks of Camp Keystone include skiing with the mountain’s mascot, ‘Riperoo the Dog’, playing around on a grooming machine playground, taking out the mini snowmobiles, skiing through fun adventure zones and participating in the daily ‘Theme Days’ with themes like ‘Safety Day’, ‘Adventure Day’ and ‘Fun Facts Day’. Well, as predicted we did get some more snow today, at least a good two inches! And it is supposed to snow on and off for the rest of the week. Making things look great for the weekend…have you booked your reservation yet?
With all this early season snow, it is looking like it is going to be a snowy season! Have you considered a season pass? It is a super cost-effective way to enjoy your time on the slopes. We just got word that Colorado Pass sales have been extended until November 21. For $479 you get unlimited skiing or riding at Keystone, Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge. As well as 10 restricted days at Vail and Beaver Creek, and 5 restricted days at Heavenly and Northstar-at-Tahoe. It’s a great alternative for folks who plan to spend the majority of their days in Summit County, and a lot cheaper than the Epic Pass. Go to Coloradopass.com for more details and to learn where you can purchase this pass.
There is a lot of activity on the mountains these days. The past few mornings we have noticed that Keystone has been blowing snow. Unfortunately, it is still getting up into the 60s during the day and that is not the best climate for snow. There are some colder temperatures predicted in the forecast in the coming days. So if mother nature can help us out a little, the resorts should be opening on time! Below are all the opening dates for the mountains in Summit County, as well as the other resorts in Colorado. Think snow!

Keystone resort has some of the most advanced snow making in the world. When you combine that with a world class crew in preparing the mountain you will realize that Keystone Resort can open its ski trails well before the rest of the country and all while make the ski trails nice and safe and of snow that is actually fun to ski in the early season. We came across this footage of snow making at Keystone and thought you would like to enjoy watching some of this magic happening, I know, its spring and the summer is right around the corner but after a good dumping of snow up on the pass and at A Basin last night I couldn’t help but be excited for the 2010/2011 ski season at Keystone Resort!
