Take Your Family to Keystone for Thanksgiving This Year

Thanksgiving is just a month away and it’s time to start planning! Why spend Thanksgiving crammed into a small space, stuck inside with nothing to do? Change things up this year and take your family to Keystone! Whether you celebrate with just your immediate family, prefer a ‘friendsgiving’ or you like to invite all of your relatives, we have the perfect accommodations for your group of 2 or 20! Here are some things to consider when looking for your Thanksgiving Lodging.

1.  The Perfect Kitchen
Are you planning to cook a big meal or would you prefer to go out for Thanksgiving Dinner and leave the cooking up to someone else? Some of our favorite kitchens at Keystone Resort include North Fork Lodge 577, Keystone Retreat 33, Wild Irishman 1064, Alders 869,  Tennis Townhomes 1314,  and Settler’s Creek 6565. Although we keep our vacation rental kitchens stocked with all of the basic cooking necessities, keep in mind that every kitchen is stocked differently and may not always include some of the more obscure items such as a turkey baster or tupperware large enough to fit all of the turkey leftovers! Make your meal prep easy by ordering in advance from one of the many grocery or meal prep delivery services and have all of the food delivered to your property’s fridge prior to your arrival!

You’ll love cooking in this dream kitchen at Keystone Retreat #33

2. Location
Location probably depends on your group and what you plan to do.  If you are looking for alot of family time shared inside the vacation home, you might be ok with a large private home tucked away at Keystone Ranch with a private hot tub. If everyone is focused on skiing, you might opt for something a little closer to the slopes and the activities that happen in River Run.  Do you mind taking a shuttle or driving to the lifts instead of walking? These are all things to consider when searching for your Thanksgiving accommodations. Also note that most of the larger townhomes and private homes tend to be a bit further from the main village.

3. Amenities
Every property is different, so be sure you narrow down your top ‘must-have’ amenities before you begin your search and that will help to make sure you are getting everything you need from your vacation rental.  Some of the most common requests include king size beds, private laundry, a private garage, fireplaces and hot tubs! Many of our larger townhomes and private homes come equipped with garages and private hot tubs which are especially great when you are traveling with a larger group! Nothing beats warming up in the hot tub under the stars after a day out on the ski slopes!

Starfire Townhome 1979 sleeps 12 and features a private garage

4. Price
The great thing about visiting over Thanksgiving are the great rates! Thanksgiving in Keystone is one of the most affordable holidays to visit during, because it falls in the early part of ski season. Although we can’t predict how much it will snow, we can promise that Keystone has incredible snow making capabilities and a good amount of the mountain should already be open, if not all of it! The skiing is great and you can’t beat how affordable it is! Take advantage of our Thanksgiving sales and promotions by signing up for the SummitCove Newsletter list below. While you are in Keystone, take advantage of our Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday sales to book your next Keystone vacation!

Leave the cooking to someone else this year too and make a reservation for Thanksgiving Dinner at Zuma Roadhouse.  For an extra special experience, ride the River Run Gondola up to the Der Fondue Chessel and enjoy a unique Bavarian dining experience at the top of the mountain. Spend Thanksgiving Day on the ski slopes teaching the kids how to ski.  Spend free time swimming in the heated outdoor pool followed by an evening of family board games or charades. Make this Thanksgiving one to remember with a family vacation at Keystone Resort.

Bring Your Family Together in Keystone for Thanksgiving

If you really want to make the most of your holiday weekend, why not take your family to Keystone for a nice ski vacation?  Instead of stressing over a big meal and having to clean the house, spread out in a spacious condo and leave the cooking to someone else!  Spend your time with your family instead!

Spend the weekend skiing together, watching football, playing games and enjoying each other’s company.  Take advantage of Keystone’s great dining options and instead of spending all of your time in the kitchen, enjoy a great family holiday meal that someone else prepares!  Try some of Keystone’s best restaurants such as the Alpenglow Stube, Der Fondue Chessel or the Ski Tip Lodge for a delicious Thanksgiving spread.  For something in River Run, check out Zuma Roadhouse.  You can also find nice family menus at Bighorn Bistro and the Snake River Saloon in Mountain House.

Support your team by sporting your football jersey out on the slopes!  You’ll notice that most people stay in on Thursday, meaning you’ll have the slopes to yourself!  If you do want to cook your family meal, you can rest easy knowing that your rental condo is stocked with plenty of cooking supplies to make that perfect meal. We require each of our vacation rentals to have a standard inventory of cooking items such as pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, utensils and more.

Arrive on Wednesday evening and just relax. On Thursday, enjoy a family day together skiing and of course eating a big meal, and then more skiing and more eating leftovers!  Friday morning, the diehard shoppers can head into town and enjoy Black Friday Deals at the Silverthorne Outlets Mall!  Talk about great deals, the outlets are a shopping lover’s dream come true and every year the deals get better and better! On Saturday, head into River Run Village and attend the Welcome Winter Family Carnival.  This free event happens every year and is the official ‘winter kickoff’ party.  Enjoy tons of activities and games for the kids, along with live music and winter-themed drink specials for the adults. Watch as the holiday tree lights up and the village lights begin their ‘dance’ for the holiday season. Santa and his reindeer will also be around for visits with the kids.

Create a new tradition this year of skiing with your family on Thanksgiving at Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado! The fresh, crisp mountain air and exercise sure beats a stuffy, crowded house any day!  You’ll love waking up early on Thanksgiving morning to hit the slopes.  Book a condo at The Springs Condos to be close to the gondola so you can head back to the condo periodically throughout the day for Thanksgiving goodies, such as a slice of pumpkin pie and to check on the score of the big game! If you aren’t into downhill skiing or snowboarding, grab a pair of snow shoes, cross-country nordic skis or ice skates and head outside!

Take advantage of our new lowered Thanksgiving weekend rates.  Book early for the best property selections, especially if you are traveling with a large or extended family.  We have everything from small ski studio condos, to medium size townhomes up to 5 and 6 bedroom private homes for a large family or even multiple families or a big group of friends!

6 Reasons Why Thanksgiving in Keystone Beats Staying Home

You’ve thought about heading to Keystone for Thanksgiving a few times over the years, yet you’re still hosting at your house.  Here is why you should make your Keystone Thanksgiving lodging reservation today:

  1. Skiing in a Football Jersey – enough said!
  2. No dishes – it’s totally acceptable to go out for Thanksgiving Dinner while you’re on vacation.  But if you do decide to cook, you can be confident that the kitchen in your condo or townhome is fully stocked with all the necessities for a great family meal.  If not, we can make recommendations for the best restaurants in the Keystone Resort area.  There are also some really awesome grocery delivery services in the area that will take the shopping and sometimes meal prep out of the equation for you!
  3. Family Game Night. Nothing brings the family together like a fun game night. Spend the evening playing charades, Speak Out, Yahtzee, Scattergories or whatever the fam enjoys these days and bring out your competitive sides.
  4. You’ll have the best stories to tell your co-workers on Tuesday morning back at work.  Instead of tall-tales of the deep fryer setting the garage on fire, you’ll be sharing stories of the ski slopes and glorious champagne powder in between all of the leftovers, hot tub dips and football games.
  5. PERSONAL SPACE! Stop cramming 15 people into your living room, with kids sharing beds and sleeping on the floor and putting grandma on a pullout sofa – book one of our spacious private homes or town homes and finally have the space to ENJOY one another’s company without getting on each other’s nerves. Your family will seriously thank you.
  6. FUN!  You and your family have limited time off together.  This is one time of the year where you have an excuse to spend time together and HAVE FUN as a family, without the daily distractions of basketball practice and piano lessons. Use the long holiday weekend as the perfect excuse to have as much fun as you can with your family.

Thanksgiving Weekend in Keystone

There is nothing like spending the holidays in a beautiful mountain town like Keystone. There is something about the environment here in the high country that really brings out the holiday cheer. Whether it is the perfectly placed snow resting on the leaves of a Pine tree in your front yard or the festive christmas lights in the village, this is a very special place to celebrate any time.

The weekend after Thanksgiving is a great time for the whole family to be visiting Keystone. Kidtopia will kick off its season on Friday, November 27th with games, a scavenger hunt, a mini parade and more! The Kidtopia headquarters is located inside of the Expedition Station right inside of the village. The kids fun will continue on Saturday with a FULL day of activities, with the Welcome Winter Family Carnival, Riperoo parade and of course fireworks over the village at 7pm. Did I mention that it’s all free?  See the full Keystone Events Calendar here.

While the kids are having fun painting faces and ice skating to music, the adults are invited to one of the many restaurants and bars for a drink and some food or to dance to live music with Coral Creek at Warren Station. By the time the fireworks are blasting into the mountain sky and lighting up the whole village, there will be families and friends everywhere enjoying the night. Make sure you don’t head back to your condo without seeing Santa and telling him what you really want for Christmas this year. There will be freshly baked cookies and hot chocolate available as well so don’t miss out on that.

No matter what time of the year you visit Keystone there are always fun things to do but there is just something unique about spending the holidays in our lovely mountain town. Come see for yourself and make this Thanksgiving one that you and your family will remember for years to come.  If you book your Thanksgiving stay by Monday, November 23, you can take 20% off a 4 night stay or 10% off 3 or fewer nights.  Check out the details of our Thanksgiving Lodging sale here.

Early Season Snowstorm Drops 10 inches of New Snow at Keystone

Summit County was hit by a nice early season snowstorm earlier this week, dropping over a foot of snow in some areas of Summit County and 10 inches in 2 days at Keystone Resort.  The fresh snow allowed Keystone to open up additional lifts and runs, now skiing from top to bottom.

As of this morning there are currently 6 lifts and 6 runs open.  Keystone is hoping to open A-51 terrain park very soon.  Today the upper portion of Schoolmarm opened, running to the top of Silverspoon and Last Chance, and finally dumping out to the Montezuma Lift mid-mountain.

The skiing is great here at Keystone Resort!  If you haven’t made plans yet for your Thanksgiving Vacation, why not head to the mountains and enjoy a snowy white Holiday on the slopes?  SummitCove Vacation Lodging is currently offering 20% off Thanksgiving stays of 4 or more nights.  Check out our Thanksgiving Lodging sale here.  See you on the slopes!

Have You Ever Went on a Ski Vacation for Thanksgiving?

If you’ve never strayed from being at home for Thanksgiving, why not think about coming to Keystone Resort this year and experience the Holiday with some new traditions?

There’s nothing better than arriving to a cozy ski condo or private home with your family, with fresh snow on the ground and Keystone as your playground!  Plan on spending the weekend together as a family with plenty of fun activities to try out as well as enjoying some down time at your vacation rental! Spend an evening in playing board games sipping hot chocolate or have a movie marathon night with popcorn.  Head to the village on another night for some window shopping or ice skating and then warm up with a hot chocolate next to the outdoor firepit.

Plan a dinner sleigh ride with Two Below Zero, where you’ll enjoy an amazing sleigh ride followed by a hearty family-style meal.  Check out the Kidtopia Grand Opening on Friday, November 27 with a scavenger hunt and family movie night.  Strap on some ice skates or head to the tubing hill.  If your family is new to skiing or snowboarding, sign up for a group lesson and learn together.  There are so many options of fun things to do, you might have trouble deciding on what to try first!

On Thanksgiving Day, wake up early and get to the slopes.  Typically on most holidays, you will find that the runs are wide open and lines are pretty much non-existent as people spend the day cooking, watching sports and doing other things.  Take advantage of that and rack up some serious vertical feet.  As an added bonus, you’ll earn a special ‘Snow Tukey’ Epic Mix pin for skiing on Thanksgiving.  Don’t forget to get a free family Epic Mix Photo while you are out on the mountain.

If you don’t want to spend the day in the kitchen, you can make reservations at one of many Keystone restaurants that will be serving up ‘Thanksgiving Dinners’.  The Bighorn Bistro will be hosting a ‘Thanksgiving Day Buffet’ with all of the classics and some other goodies including seafood chowder, chef-carved prime rib, pork medallions, cheese plates, shrimp, salmon, mussels, veggies and more. The Ski Tip Lodge, Alpenglow Stube, Keystone Ranch, and Der Fondue Chessel are just some of the other restaurants that will be offering a special holiday menu. Don’t forget to make a reservation in advance if you are planning on dining out for your Thanksgiving feast.

If you do decide you’d like to cook, you should know that we do require our properties to withhold a specific kitchen inventory and we should have most of the items you’ll need to prepare a meal- but please realize a few specialty items may not be available such as a turkey baster or gravy boat. You may also want to check out a grocery or meal delivery service to help, like Peak Provisions.  They can help you avoid the grocery store lines and save you time by delivering groceries and ‘ready to cook’ meals right to your condo, meaning all you have to do is pop it in the oven, no prep required.  They even have a special Thanksgiving menu with Turkey, Prime Rib, and tasty sides like Maple Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Fresh Green Beans with Bacon, and Pecan Pie with Higgles Sweet Cream Cinnamon Ice Cream!  They also offer our guests a special discount!

After the holiday, there are some other special events planned for the Holiday weekend. Santa will be visiting with his reindeer at River Run from 3:30 – 5:30 pm on Saturday, November 28.  You can also check out the free Welcome Winter Family Carnival at Warren Station, which is fun for both the adults and kids!  Kids can spend the afternoon getting their faces painted, having fun in bounce houses, doing crafts, playing games and sipping hot chocolate.  The parents can get into the winter groove with live music from Chris Thompson and Coral Creek while enjoying some fresh winter cocktails.  After the carnival, head outside for the Lighting of River Run and fireworks over the village.

This is the year to plan your first ‘Thanksgiving ski vacation!’  You could even invite your extended family and rent a large private home or one of our beautiful townhomes.  You’ll see how a family ski trip over the holidays really brings everyone together!
