Now is the time to start thinking about winter and tying up those loose ends on your ski vacation.
Red Hawk Lodge #2277 is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo located in River Run Village at Keystone Resort. Red Hawk Lodge has an ideal location, located on the outskirts of the village, just yards from the gondola and within walking distance of the shops, restaurants, Dercum Square Ice Rink and Warren Station events center. Since it is not right in the middle of the village, it tends to be a little quieter than some of the other buildings in River Run, yet still just as convenient!
Red Hawk offers guests some wonderful amenities including an outdoor heated pool and hot tub with a ski slope view! Imagine soaking in the hot tub as the snow falls after a long day on the ski slopes. Red Hawk has a fun common area to hang out in as with, with TV’s and a pool table, so you can send the kids down to hang out or the adults can enjoy a cold beverage as you watch the big football game. Ski lockers, a fitness center and heated underground parking just add to the list of amenities at the lodge.
This two bedroom Red Hawk condo is perfect for friends or a small family traveling to Keystone Ski Resort this winter. It has been recently updated with plush new carpeting, a leather sofa and beautiful stone tiles. The kitchen features stainless steel appliances and shiny, stone countertops. In the master bedroom, enjoy the spacious king bed and on-suite bathroom that includes a jetted bathtub, double vanity sinks and stand-up shower. The second bedroom is a ‘bunk room’, with a full size bed on the bottom and a single bunk on top. There are tons of board games and books available to keep the kids having fun while you hang out in this comfortable condo.
If we had to pick our ‘favorite’ thing about this property, it would definately be the oversized balcony. It runs almost the whole width of the condo and has incredible views of the ski slopes and marshy areas near the Snake River. There’s nothing better than waking up and seeing the skiers coming down the mountain or taking in the afternoon sun out on the deck!
This condo is already started to fill up for the winter 18/19 ski season, so take action and make a reservation today. Book this Red Hawk Condo today for your upcoming winter ski vacation at Keystone Resort, Colorado.
If you have never been to Keystone Resort, you may be wondering what the differences are between the two villages at Keystone Resort, Mountain House or River Run. Personally, we think they are both great! Use this guide to help you sort through the options and help you decide what you are looking for in your ski vacation. Do you want peace and quiet or do you enjoy being in the heart of everything? Is convenience the most important thing or do you need to stick within a budget? How far are you willing to walk to the lifts? These are all questions you need to think about as you do a search for the perfect vacation rental!
River Run Village River Run is known as the ‘main’ village at Keystone Resort. When you picture the perfect little ski town village, River Run is just that. It is fairly small in area, adjacent to the Snake River and the Ski Slopes of course. The main village area is for pedestrians only and is great for walking around and window shopping. There are plenty of different shops here, whether you want to find a fun souvenir for your loved ones at home, purchase a new outfit or just pickup a forgotten ski essential that you left at home such as your hat or goggles. There is also a small market in the village where you can pickup the essentials, although we typically recommend buying most of your groceries on the way into Keystone to save money and find a better selection. Some of the best restaurants in Keystone are located here in River Run including the New Moon Cafe, Kickapoo Tavern, Zuma Roadhouse and the Inxpot Coffee Shop.
As far as skier services go, you’ll have the option to take the River Run Gondola or the Summit Express Chair Lift which both take you to the very top of Dercum Mountain, the first of three peaks at Keystone Resort. The ticket office is located right across from the gondola, along with a ski storage area and lockers. This is also one of the main locations of the Keystone Ski and Ride School, taking the gondola up to a learning area.
The River Run condos include almost 15 different complexes including The Springs, Red Hawk, Jack Pine, Buffalo, Expedition and Silver Mill just to name a few. Lone Eagle and the Timbers are also part of this group, but they are located on the ski slope itself, and the only true ski in/out properties in Keystone. These properties are some of the newer complexes in Keystone but most of them tend to be on the smaller size as far as square footage goes and most range from 1 – 3 bedrooms, with a few 4 bedrooms in the mix. Common amenities of these vacation rental properties include balconies, gas fireplaces, heated parking garages, pool and hot tub access, fitness centers and more. These properties are literally in the heart of it all with the slopes, gondola, shops, rentals, restaurants, and more just outside your door. There is also the Dercum Square Ice Rink and Keystone Kidtopia headquarters to entertain the kiddos on a day off the slopes or free afternoon.
Mountain House Village The Mountain House Village expands further out from its base area and although a good majority of the properties here will be within walking distance to the slopes, some aren’t or some will just be a longer walk than you may enjoy.
Although you don’t have gondola access at Mountain House, you will have access to the Peru Chair Lift which goes about halfway up the mountain and from there you can hop on the Montezuma chair to get to the top or ski to the bottom of River Run. There are the same skier services with a season pass and ticket office, ski school and learning area at the base with both the Discovery and Poma lifts. There are fewer restaurants, but you can still find the Mountain House cafeteria, Last Lift Bar and the new Three Peaks restaurant. There isn’t much nightlife here, but River Run is a quick bus ride or about a 10 minute walk if you do want to go somewhere. Mountain House is certainly a ‘quieter’ scene if that’s what you are looking for. There are some restaurants in this area away from the base, off of Highway 6 including our favorite pizza establishment, Pizza 101, the Snake River Saloon, Subway and Dos Locos. The Snake Saloon has great nightlife with bands playing live music every weekend during ski season and much of the summer months too.
Since Mountain House was the ‘original’ base area of Keystone Resort, these were obviously the first properties built in Keystone, meaning they are a bit older, but that doesn’t mean not as nice! Many of these properties feature great views of the ski slopes and more space inside of the condos. The rates also tend to be a bit lower versus River Run. Some of the buildings such as Chateaux DuMont and Slopeside Condos are literally just steps from the ski slopes. Most Chateaux DuMont condos have private hot tubs as well! Other great options include Hidden River Lodge, Tenderfoot, Frostfire, Snake River Townhomes and the Gateway Lodge. All of these properties have hot tubs, but just a few include pool access.

The enchantment and magic of the words “ski in ski out” evoke the greatest of emotions in any resort enthusiast. A property that is truly ski in ski out means snapping into your gear and skiing down to the lift, watching people make turns from your bedroom or porch, lunch on the balcony and skiing directly up to the door of your building with no walking involved! In Keystone, many properties that are advertised are a ski in ski out are more of a ‘short hike’ away from the slopes. Websites, like SummitCove.com in Keystone will tell you exactly how many yards you are away from the lifts and show you on a google map exactly where the property is located and how to get to the nearest lift.
The only 2 buildings in Keystone that truly are ski in ski out properties are Lone Eagle and The Timbers. These properties are situated on River Run directly below Ina’s way above the River Run Gondola and Summit Express. Staying here means no walking to the lifts and no walking back to the buildings – you ski directly up to your door!
There are many other “basically ski in ski out” properties in Keystone that are extremely close and a very easy flat, and non-treacherous walk to the lifts. The “basically ski in ski out” properties to the lifts on the Mountain House side are at Slopeside and Chateau DuMont – you can be out your front door and at the lift in under two minutes walking time to the Peru lift. Just beyond these buildings are going to be Key Condo and Ironwood Townhomes which are about a 5 minute walk over to the Peru lift and directly behind the free skier parking at the Pika Lot.
On the River Run Village side, there are also a few properties that are “basically ski in ski out” allowing a few minutes walk . Any property in the River Run Village is also a less than 5 minute walk through the village which folks typically find relatively painless. The Springs and Red Hawk are going to be the closest to the gondola followed by Arapahoe Lodge, Jackpine and Black Bear. Situated right behind these buildings are Silvermill, Expedition Station, Dakota and Buffalo. In River Run Village, you have the convenience of walking to a good number of shops, restaurants and bars.
If you are willing to endure a 10 – 15 minute walk on the footpath through the wetlands you might consider staying at one of our properties in Mountain House such as Snow Dance Manor, Cinnamon Ridge, or Gateway Lodge.
Depending on your budget what amenities you are looking for, Keystone Resort has a wide variety of properties from the “truly ski in ski out” to “short hike” away from the lifts. Keystone also runs a complimentary resort shuttle, meaning any property in Keystone is just a short walk or lift from the slopes. SummitCove can help find the perfect property for you and your group no matter what you are looking for!
