Nordic Sleigh Rides

Nordic Sleigh Rides is a special experience unto itself. Located in Breckenridge, the experience includes a sleigh ride, dinner and a show! The evening begins with a sleigh ride on custom-built Santa sleighs pulled by huge Belgian draft horses wearing antique brass sleigh bells. Under crisp Colorado skies, the horses take you to a re-creation of an 1860’s miners’ camp. You’ll feel as though you’ve gone back in time 140 years to Breckenridge’s early mining days!

As your sleigh is arriving at the camp you will be greeted by the sounds of “ragtime” being played on a piano made in 1895. For dinner you are served your choice of steak, barbecue chicken or baked salmon complete with hot apple pie for dessert. Much of the meal is prepared on an antique wood cook stove that actually came out of a mining camp in 1865. The highlight of the evening comes with the show. Nordic Sleigh Rides usually offers three different shows during the season and you can decide which of the shows you would best like to attend. All of the shows are family friendly and focused on family fun. The two most popular are the Mountain Men or the Dance Hall Girls and both are historical and fun shows about Breckenridge, the mining towns and more.

Reservations are required and you can give them a call at (970) 453-2005 or you can visit their website at: www.nordicsleighrides.com.

Good Times Adventures

The same company (Good Times Adventures) also has one other activity in Breckenridge, dog sledding. The dog sled tours begin with experienced guides explaining the operations of the sleds and how to handle the beautiful Siberian Huskies we run. Good Times Adventures offers a 6-mile relay tour through the Middle Fork of the Swan River, which can handle up to 6 people. The tour is run as a “relay”; all guests will switch off between running the dogs, riding in the dogsled, and riding on a small passenger sleigh with the guide. The tour runs for a little more than an hour stopping along the way for everyone to trade places. The guests on the sleigh have the opportunity to take great action shots and video of the people on the dog sled. This tour is a unique and interactive way to experience dog sledding and Good Times Adventures is the only local provider. Due to the nature of the sport, children under 3 years and women who are pregnant are not recommended.

Be sure to dress in layers for these activities and reservations are required. Also, a liability waiver must be signed to participate. The average price runs $70 for adults and $35 for children (under 8). To make a reservation please call (800)477-0144 or you can visit their website at www.goodtimesadventures.com. And please, do not forget your camera for any of these family fun filled events.
