Anyone that takes advantage of night skiing knows that it is a ton of fun! There are typically less people on the mountain and it's a whole new experience from skiing in the day time. Keystone is one of the few mountains in Colorado that allows you to ski under the lights, making for one of the longest ski days in the area (and the most bang for buck with lift tickets!). So why sit in your room when the crisp fresh air awaits as you cut trails in fresh night powder. Yes, we will have snow in the evenings, too![caption id="attachment_22207" align="aligncenter" width="584"] Having fun night skiing in the snow at Keystone Resort![/caption]
Living in Keystone has allowed me the opportunity to enjoy all facets of activities within the resort area. Take a moment to consider going out for a few runs and returning to your hot tub with your own cocktails in plastic containers. Relaxing at the end of a run is an idyllic scenario.
My favorite time to be out skiing is from 4 - 7 p.m. Dress in layers to keep warm because as soon as the sun drops behind Peak One, the temperatures drop quickly here. Be safe and stay warm by wearing multiple cotton layers plus a wool layer with insulation for the upper and lower body limbs. Clear or yellow google lenses work best for night skiing. A fleece facemask or bandana is a must to keep your face warm. Be sure to stop for a warming drink at Summit House or at the end of your run you have several locations to choose from instead of just returning to your room. Some places I have chosen for Apres Ski Happy Hour Specials are:
Additionally, at the end of a night run it is fun to swing into Kickapoo Tavern for a late meal either at the bar or with friends at one of the tables. Another great meeting spot is Zuma Roadhouse in River Run, and if you want to venture outside of River Run along Highway 6 you will find Snake River Saloon (on the South side of Hwy 6) & Dos Locos (on the North side of Hwy 6).
Summit House does serve hot chocolate for children that decide to venture out for some night skiing with family and friends or spiked Irish Coffee for the adults. Peru chair lift at the Mountain House Base Area is open until 8:00 PM which you will connect with the Montezuma chairlift to reach Summit House area. The River Run Gondola is also open until 8:00 PM to the Summit House, too. The gondola is great for warming up a little in-between runs. The mountain is open for night skiing on most Wednesdays - Sundays throughout the rest of the season. Night skiing is a must do next time you are visiting Keystone!
