Friends of the Dillon Ranger District and the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado will be hosting a weekend-long trail project at the Keystone Homestead on September 15 & 16. Volunteers of the project will be working to help alleviate drainage issues at the historic Keystone Homestead, which is currently used by Keystone Resort for its dinner sleigh and wagon rides, along with other recreational activities such as hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The weekend includes fun and rewarding trail work, youth activities, live music, free camping and meals, along with the chance to meet other locals and volunteers.
Volunteers are invited to join one or both days of this service weekend. 100 volunteers are needed each day. Free camping will be available at Keystone Homestead on Friday and Saturday nights and free meals will be provided for registered volunteers starting at breakfast Saturday morning through Sunday lunch. Local musician, Randall McKinnon, will be performing live on Saturday evening. While adults 13 and older work on the Tower Trail, younger children ages 6-12 are invited to participate in the Young Stewards Program, which will include environmental education, outdoor games, and age-appropriate stewardship activities and work on their own trail project.
If you are interested in volunteering, you must pre-register for one or both days in order for the organizers to plan for necessary tools, supplies, and food.
