Posted by: The Smith Family, Visiting Alders Townhomes 42 (East Keystone)
We just wrapped up the most incredible pre-holiday weekend in Keystone, and we had to share our experience. We booked our trip with SummitCove Lodging looking for a quick, pre-holiday getaway, knowing it was still early season. We expected a couple of open runs and a great time bonding as a family—what we got was a full-blown powder miracle!
The Snow God’s Surprise
The forecast called for snow, but nothing prepared us for the massive winter storm that rolled in. Over three days, Keystone got absolutely DUMPED on—with over a foot of fresh, fluffy powder right outside our townhome! The excitement was electric.
The conditions on the mountain were unbelievable for this time of year. Every morning, more terrain was opening up, giving us fresh tracks and deep, soft snow all weekend long. Hitting the slopes after getting a foot of snow overnight felt like surfing. It was easily the best early-season skiing we’ve ever had!
Our Perfect Mountain Basecamp: Alders Townhomes 42

The trip was already a 10/10 because of the snow, but our stay at Alders Townhomes 42 in East Keystone elevated it to an 11. Traveling with our two kids and some extended family (we were a group of 7), we needed space and comfort, and this 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom townhome delivered completely.
Here’s what made it the absolute perfect spot for a powder weekend:
The Cozy Retreat: After battling the wind and snow all day, walking into the modern, stylish living room was heaven. The kids immediately staked out spots by the cozy fireplace to warm up, while the adults relaxed on the plush seating and watched the flakes fall outside. As a bonus, this property has two living rooms in case there is a conflict on the movie choice for the night! The kids really enjoyed having the den area all to themselves in the basement!
Family Dinner Central: The open-plan kitchen was a lifesaver. We didn't want to fight the River Run crowds every night, so we loved having high-end appliances and plenty of counter space to cook big, family-style meals. The dining table was large enough for all of us to gather, eat, play games and recount our best powder runs of the day!

The Private Hot Tub! I saved the best for last. Nothing beats soaking in a private hot tub under a blanket of stars while it's still snowing. It was the absolute best way to soothe our tired muscles and watch the snow accumulate for the next day's adventure.
Easy Access to the Action
Being located in East Keystone gave us a quiet, serene mountain setting, but we were never far from the action. We just walked to the nearby shuttle stop, and it zipped us straight over to River Run River every morning. It made getting the family and all the gear to the mountain totally stress-free.
If you’re dreaming of a snow-filled escape, do yourself a favor: Book your stay at Alders Townhomes 42 with SummitCove. It truly felt like our home away from home, and it turned an early-season trip into an unforgettable epic.
