What You Need to Know When Planning a Keystone Thanksgiving Holiday Vacation

What are your plans for Thanksgiving this year? For some people, Thanksgiving is a big family event, while for others it might just be a time to relax and take a quick vacation. If you are in either category we have a place for you in one of our properties. Keystone is a great family friendly resort and SummitCove Lodging has many different accommodations options to make your Turkey Day celebration just right!

If you have big family plans, you might be asking yourself, "Can I cook a big Thanksgiving dinner in a rental property?" The answer is yes! All of our properties starting at the 1 bedrooms condos up to the 5 bedroom private homes all will have a fully equipped kitchen with plenty of cooking supplies. We set some basic requirements at our properties to supply things like a roasting pan, as well as many types of serving utensils, cookie sheets, cake pans, mixing bowls, etc. While some properties go above and beyond stocking just the requirements, not all of them will have things like a meat thermometer, extra serving dishes, tin foil, Tupperware for leftovers or gravy boats. If there is anything vital to your meal, bring it with you or plan on stopping in Dillon at City Market, Target or Bed, Bath and Beyond if you need to pick up a few last minute items.

Some of our larger townhomes and private homes would be a great fit to bring a large family or even multiple families to enjoy the holiday together.  We have plenty of properties that have large dining tables that seat many people, so be sure to check our website, to see the pictures of the dining rooms in each condo you are interested in. We do not have any extra chairs to supply, so this is an important part of your planning process to make sure you have enough seating for everyone invited.

If you are planning to come out and just relax over the holiday vacation, but you still want a hearty Thanksgiving meal without all the mess, there are some other options around town for you other than cooking a big meal yourself. Many of the local restaurants in Keystone serve up a special holiday menu for your Thanksgiving dinner.  Another option is a meal or grocery delivery service.  Peak Provisions is located in Silverthorne and will deliver food & beverages right to your property.  They can bring everything you need to make your Thanksgiving meal; prepped and ready to cook and then all you have to do is prepare it how you like. A 10-12 lb cooked Colorado turkey will cost around $47 and there are some delicious sides like Fresh Green Beans with Bacon and Maple Roasted Sweet Potatoes, ranging in price from $5 to $15 for each multiple serving side. For dessert try out a delicious pumpkin, pecan or apple pie. They will even bring you beer and wine and they also offer SummitCove guests a discount on their orders, check your confirmation e-mail for the details.  This is a really great option for anyone who does not want to have to cook a meal from scratch or have to deal with the long lines at the grocery store! City Market also makes a prepared meal that simply needs to be heated up when you're ready to eat!

Thanksgiving Day is a wonderful day to hit the slopes. Most people are busy preparing food and spending time with their families and although the day before and the day after are typically busy, the day of the Holiday is usually pretty mellow out on the mountain. Make sure to save a little time for skiing to earn your turkey later because the food always tastes better with a little pre-dinner work out.  You will even earn a special Epic Mix Pin for skiing or riding on the holiday!

For all of the shopping lovers out there looking for the best deals, Black Friday at the Outlets at Silverthorne has some amazing deals on brands like Nike, Columbia, Polo Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, Under Armour and American Eagle. In the past, the outlets have opened up as early 9pm on Thanksgiving night for shoppers to get the best deals as early as possible.  There is also a Target and Wal-Mart nearby and of course don't forget to stop at all of the local shops on Small Business Saturday!

Keystone is a wonderful place to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends, there are always plenty of activities like ice skating, tubing and snowshoeing available daily and you just can't beat the holiday atmosphere of the Rocky Mountains!  Check out live music and holiday treats at the Welcome Winter Carnival and enjoy the Holiday Tree Lighting over Thanksgiving weekend! Book with SummitCove Lodging for Thanksgiving and make it the holiday you will never forget!
